my lemur doesn't seem to mind if I grab him at the BASE of his tail to cage him or what ever.  It's important that you don't grab the end of his tail as you could "deglove" it.  In other words, his fur and hide could strip off his tail.  If I hold my lemur by the base of his tail I often support his body with my other hand but this doesn't seem to be necessary.  I don't think you can get bitten very easily this way either but can't say for certain as Skooga has never bitten in anger or fear. I have also held him by his back legs like a doctor holds a new born to drain fluids and make it cry when it's born. Let me know if this is helpful.  Reach me at cdo@dam.net.
