I have Japanese Chins now, but as they have gotten older, they have become rather "aloof."  Do Shih Tzu's remain affectionate and playful as they get older?

I love the fact that my chins are so quiet.   Are the Shih Tzu's naturally "yappy" at all?

Maybe your chins, or dogs for that matter just don't like you.  Japanese chin are the most affectionate dogs I've come across.  They are a very calm breed but still play when they want to.  If you absolutely have to them act the way you want, you shouldn't have a dog.

I Have a chin who will be three in june and i have only had him since he was two and a half, he came into a home with two female shih-tzu/peke mixes and just made himself at home.He is nothing short of a little clown,he rough houses with his sisters and the cat.  My two girls are not "yappy" at all they will alert me to noises out of the ordinary but over all the whole lot of them are extremely quiet playful dogs; the oldest girl is seven and the other will be six in august and they both are still playful and pretty loving.  The thing to remember about these breeds is they have a lot of cat like qualities and sometimes they want things on their own terms and you just have to go along
