Voyager 2 visited Neptune.  It got there on August 25, 1989.  It was launched from Earth on August 20, 1977.  It didn't land on the planet but that is because it was sent to take pictures and receive and send information on the planet back to Earth.

Voyager II flew by Neptune in 1977, and is the only probe that has collected data on the planet. It is now heading out to deep space to find where solar winds end, being the edge of our solar system.

Voyager 1 is the main important because it was the first one to discover Neptunes surface, then voyager 2 came along and it discovered a little more. That wil happen with everything you do the first thing will seem the best then something else comes along and surprises you even more.

Two Voyagers have explored Jupiter, Uranus, Saturn and Neptune, along with dozens of their moons. In addition, they have been studying the solar wind, the stream of charged particles spewing from the sun at nearly a million miles per hour.

Voyager II went to Neptune on the 8th of August, 1989. It specifically went that year because of Neptune's rare once-in-a-189-year position. This position helped Voyager II to "slingshot" (as you may call it) from planet to planet.

Voyager 2 visited Neptune in 1989, passing as close as it came to any of the outer planets, on a trajectory that brought it to approx. 4,950 km above Neptune's north pole, and some 40,000 km from Neptune's largest moon, Triton. Voyager 2 is the only probe to have visited that planet as of this writing (2007), and is also the only probe to have visited Uranus. Its encounter with Triton deflected its trajectory out of the plane of the solar system, and thus Triton was the last major solid body it encountered.
