I don't know if it was created or found.  I do know that most of the heavier elements are created in an accelerator apparatus.  I do know that the reason it is called Meitnerium is because of the suggestions made by Lise Meitner did for the appearance of barium in the after math of a decomposition of Uranium 235.  Pretty intense stuff really.  It was through her concepts that the atomic bomb was eventually prompted into creation.
