I am looking for a movie and the name of it with Mare Winningham,about her being very poor and she has 3 or 4 kids on welfare and she decided to have the social service people take them away with out the kids knowing. Please do any one remember this movie..HELP I AM LOOKING FOR THE NAME.

All I can remember is a high school teenager dies in a drag race when his car goes off the edge in the 50s or 60s. Then in present time his spirit comes back to help a teenager who has problems in school then finds out later that he is his son. He visits his high school sweetheart who he got pregnant but did not know because he died. His son almost dies the same way but he appeared in the car to help him. If anyone can tell me the name of it I would highly be appreciated. Thank you.
