We have a Yorkie who has an allergy to something, unsure of what. We live in Canada and the weather has just started to get cold. She scratches & licks until she is quite red. We have her on an ante-histamine which helps somewhat. Does anyone else have this problem.   Please help

Your dog probably has allergies.  Yorkies are a breed that commonly develops allergies.  I have a Yorkie and he has allergies, so I have done a lot of research on it.  I took him to the vet and received an antihistamine and prednisone.  I do not want my dog on prednisone for the rest of his life (I am a pharmacist), so I opted for the allergy shots.  It seems to help some, but he needs to be on the shots for several months usually until the allergies are under control.
This might be a good option for you.
Good luck!

well, I've done the shots, which did not take, i had her on prednisone, but that shot her liver... so basically my dog was allergic to feathers... all feathers. there's nothing to do, after a while allergy meds stop working, and the money i spent on shots didn't work either. and now her liver is causing her problems.

We just recently got a Yorkshire Terrier. He seems to have some allergies. He chews on his feet and scratches at his ears. This usually occurs after he's been outside. My vet says that he's too young to have allergies (he's 3 months old). What do you suggest in the form of treatment?

They could be allergic to the corn or wheat in the food.  Try "life"s Abundance"  We switched to it cause our golden had the same licking thing going on and was making herself RAW and it smelled. Go to this web site to get info or order.
