Hey Everyone
I got my navel pierced on July 28th 2004. If you pierced it your self, I would suggest to buy some bactine so that after you clean it, it'll prevent infections. When you clean it, gently take a q-tip and put whatever solution your piercer has told you to use, I use peroxide, since two of my other sisters use it and their's is fine, no infections.
Gently with your wet q-tip rub around the top part of the jewelry and the bottom part of your jewelry. Wait a few seconds and then softly and gently swipe the top and bottom of your jewelry with the dry tip.
When you're in the showers, make sure you use some antibacterial soup, lather it in your hands and gently rub the surrounding area and where and on top of the jewelry. Don't rinse it right away. You want to gently turn it, if you have a curved one in your navel. If you have circular one, the best I can suggest is to turn one way and then the other way. If you have a curved one, then you want to turn it in a full 0 degree, so the soup can reach the inside of your jewelry.
Don't take it out and leave it out for longer than 5 minutes. I'd say the longest you can leave it out is 10 minutes. It'll close up in that amount of time, no matter how long you've had it.
If you have a safety pin, I'd recommend that you take it out, and find your original belly ring. If you have a safety pin in there, it won't be the size of the jewelry that you'd like to have: 14g, 12g, 10g. I have a 14g, at the moment. Mine is looking pretty good. I mean you can take it out when you clean it, but make sure you clean the ring and where the holes are in your navel real good and put the jewelry back in.
For swimming, I'd recommend swimming. Don't swim in beachy areas. For public pool swimming, works awesome. Not only does it clean you belly ring, but it smoothes out the pain.
If your belly ring is sore, try taking it easy for awhile. Laying down really helps. Bending over can be a pain in the butt, but you'll get used to it. If it gets swollen, take it easy, try to clean it with what I use. Peroxide. Or some sea salt soaks. I've heard of it, but never used it, so I can't give you my recommendation on that. Sorry. If you use rubbing alcohol, it will sting a lil' bit, not much. You may get a little redness from rubbing alcohol, but not as much from peroxide. You get less redness. If yours is swollen, try using peroxide for a few days, and see if it helps. If it doesn't, call the nearest piercing place and ask their recommendations for it.
I've been told that you can change it when 2 months from the day of your piercing is up. I've got mine done on July 28th, 2004. So that would mean I can change it in a matter of couple weeks or something, since I've had it about a month and a half.
As for hot tubs, I wouldn't go in there. I did a few times, but when you sit, may tug a little. When you get out, depending on the temp., your jewelry may be warm against your skin, and may feel uncomfortable. I am just relaying my experiences, to help you get an idea. Hope my list of info helps out everyone.
