It's wood, since steel and plastic weren't even thought of in the early 1900's. Everything were mostly made up of wood back then. Back then the roller coasters were so dull some of our today slides were more exciting. The loop wasn't invented yet, and drops had to be modified so that they weren't too high fast, otherwise the train would crash.

The oldest type of roller coasters, were originally called Ice Slides.
They looked like skateboard parks, and were covered in ice.
