hi fren
I am an engineering student.I can  just give an idea of what an 8051 microcontroller is.first of all u must know the difference b/w a microprocessor and a controller. The microprocessor is a processor having no ram,rom and i/o ports. All these have to be connected externally.it has a single memory where all the data and code are stored. This type of architecture is Von Neuman architecture. In a controller, the program, code and data are stored in different memory areas. This is Harvard architecture. Here all the ram,rom and ports are onchip.it has onchip timers.timer 0 and 1.The main advantage of mc is that all that the 8 bits are bit addressable where as in proc it is of bytes ie in mc u can use each bit to interface with different devices simutaneously..
u can follow the intel 8085 data sheet.have keil'ssoftware in ur pc and a simulator..master it.

Hi Friends,
I am a diploma student. I am studying DEEE in Murugappa Polytechnic College , Avadi-62.
Now I want to share my idea with you about Intel 8051. 8051 is a 8 bit processor. In this 8051 we can able to access only 8 bit data at a time. In this 8085 RAM, EPROM,2Timers, Counters,Serial Ports,Interrupt control are inbuilt in a single IC Chip. Where in Processor We have to connect the RAM, ROM Etc in externally. So it is the major difference between microprocessor and microcontroller.

in simple word microcontroller is a "computer on a chip".u need not connect RAM,ROM,I/O ports, timers etc to this chip. All these are internally connected in a small chip.we can compare it with CPU of our computer.just connect a LCD(dispaly device) and a key board to uC and u can do various functions using this application board.
