My healthy athletic 13 year old collie was running (chasing ball) as he has done every day of his life.  He is intense in his pursuit and goes all out for the catch.  Yesterday during this daily routine he suddenly let out a small yelp and went down.  I went to him to find he could not support himself and could not walk.  One leg was stiff in the outstretched position and the other leg seems to have no sensation.  If I walk him with a towel support he stiff arms one leg and drags the other, paw folded back.  24 hrs later there is little if any improvement.  My vet suggests a possible "spinal stroke" and he arranged for me to see a neurologist Monday.  Anyone with experience or suggestions or can shed light on prognosis and future quality of life?  I am devastated.
