On a 2003 Tundra, is the best way to get to the oil filter is to remove the plastic cover that extends completely across the bottom of the engine compartment?

I just reach down from above and loosen the filter with a wrench...then I place a plastic bag over the filter... then remove the filter...keeping the bag in place to catch any residual oil. Or use a flat pie pan or similar placed under the filter to catch any residual oil after removing the filter.
