My rottweiler is seven years old.  He has always been in excellent health.  A week ago, for no apparent reason he had a gran mal seizure.  My vet did a blood work up on him, to no avail.  Three days after the first seizure, which lasted about two and a half minutes, he had another seizure which lasted only about a minute.  I took him back to my vet who has put him on Phenobarbital, 60 mgs. twice daily, and wants to see him again in three weeks.  Has anyone had similar experiences or any helpful suggestions?

How is your dog?  I have nine years old rottweiler.  She has always been in excellent health like yours.  About one week ago, she had a gran mal seizure.  Next day she had several seizures, so I took her to her vet.  The result of a blood work was perfect.  Nothing was wrong.  Her vet has put her on Phenobarbital 60 mg (1 Tab twice a day) and Clomipramine Hydrochloride 75mg (1 cap a day).  I thought those medications prevented seizure, but now she has partial mal.

my golden had a gran mal seizure and has been fine since im not sure what caused it or why. hes in good health we had our dog in a cage during the day to keep him from hurting himself while our house is being worked on we wonder if inactivity or allergies might have something to do with this

My best girl is a 10 year old rottweiler who began having seizures about a year ago. She is not on medication at the moment. There will be days were no seizures are evident and then days when the seizures are often alternating both mild and grand. Does any one know what this is?

I have a 11yoa  male Rottweiler, He has been in excellent health. About a year ago Simba had a grand Mal seizure. I was there with him and talked him through it. To my knowledge this was the first one he ever had. After he was done he was weak and vomited, I thought that maybe he had eaten some type of plant which was toxic, however I believe that I am wrong almost a year later he continues having seizures. Is eplilepsy really that prevalent in Rottis? I would like to eventually get another Rotti but, if is something that common in the breed I am having 2nd thoughts. Any and all info is appreciated
