I have a 10 wk old mini Beagle. She is wonderful, BUT, I don't seem to have the right method of stopping her biting, chewing everything AND I made the mistake of using a squeek toy to wrestle with her. She began growling and then discovered her bark, which she is very impressed with. What is the best way to deal with these two problems. I work all day and only have evenings/weekends to work on this problem. Thanks, Carole

I think you should tap her on the side of her mouth a little hard and tell her no. If she still does it tap her on her rear. If she doesnt growl or bite give her a treat and say good girl. But only give it to her if she does it on the first try. And do it every time she does it.

If your dog is 10 weeks old, she is probably teething.  As much time as has passed, my guess she has now moved on to digging and "baying".  I have a two year old male.

Where did you find the mini beagle? I'm interested in getting one.  I own a beagle and I found that a little vinegar in some water in a spray bottle worked well in training.  Don't need to soak them, just a small spray. You also have to back that up with the proper command. Just remember who the ADULT HUMAN is!!!

i think you should get a little peice of newspaper, roll it up into a tube and smack her in the rear.but don't do it to hard.just do so they feel it, and then say no!that's a bad girl.you can also kind of tap on the side of her mouth.and if she still does it then still say no!that's a bad girl. or do what i said to do in the begging of the answer.

I have a mini beagle and I too had these problems when she was littler. She is a year and a half, almost, now. I do not believe in hitting a dog to correct its behavior. If a baby cried would you smack it to stop? With age the biting stops, my puppy teethed as any puppy or baby does and she too loved the sound of her bark.  I do admit that these habits were sometimes painful and annoying but I have found a couple of things that have worked. If the puppy bits you, use a high pitched sad whine. If that does not work, instead of hitting the puppy, get a simple spray bottle filled with water and spray the puppy once and say "NO!"  I love my puppy dearly, and I don't want to ever hurt her, thats why i have these methods which I have found to work just as well.

We had the same problem with ours.  We found it was best to tell her no, and then shove a chewy bone or something appropriate in her mouth that she can bite and chew on.  If she follows with that idea, give her a treat.  My dog loves food!

My beagle is 3 yrs old. Look at the growl as a play sound rather than a threat sound (growl back when playing). Use the bark as an information sound rather than a nuisance. Remember your beagle is like an infant - would you tell a 5 month old baby not to cry or laugh or burble? Teach your pup that you will recognize certain sounds as having certain meanings, and your pup will develop a language you understand.
