Firstly the sabbath is part of the law of moses, and the law of moses was given to the jews and the jews alone. we gentiles are under God's grace through Jesus' sacrifice on the cross. therefore we are free from the law but justified by faith not deeds eg observing the law. anyone confused on the matter should asks Jesus our savior to guide them through studying Galations particularly ch3 and the book of Romans. all found in the New Testament, (New Covenant) God bless.

Jesus said if you love me keep my commandments.  The fourth Commandment commands us to Honor the Seventh Day of the week as the Day God rested from all of his works.  This is the Day He hallowed it and set it aside as Holy.  We are commanded to rest from all of our labor. We are to spend time in remembering the Creator. Remember the Sabath Day to keep it Holy.  We are not suppose to worship God on Sunday, but everyday, but the Sabath Day we are to keep it holy.

Marlon Ward reply has several errors.1)The sabbath was written by God himself and is not part of the law of Moses that was fulfilled.  The Sabbath is part of the law that says that we must love God.  The sabbath is one way of loving God. 2)Everybody (including Moses, Jews, and Gentiles) is under God's grace because we are all sinners. 3)The only part of the law that was forgiven was the punishment but the law is still in force.  It was a sin to kill, fornicate, etc., in Moses law, and still is under Jesus grace but Jesus paid our punishment.

The Bible says "The Sabbath was made to benefit people, and not people to benefit the Sabbath. (Mk 2:27) Which means God didn't make that rule to bind us to it, He made it because He knew we needed a day of rest. A day to unwind and relax. He did it to give us freedom not to be in bondage too. I think you should get your bible out and study it for yourself and ask God to help you figure it out.

The Roman Catholic Church takes pride in  its achievement of changing the The Lord's Day of Worship from the seventh day of the week - Saturday(Sabbath) to the fist day of the week - Sunday.

Revelation 22 vs 13,14 SAYS "I am Alpha and Omega , the beginning and the end , the first and last.Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life ,and may enter in through the gates in to the city."

THE DEVIL BELIEVES IN GOD BUT HE DOESN'T DO HIS COMMANDMENTS.

IF YOU LOVE GOD YOU WILL DO HIS COMMANDMENTS.

Revelations 14 vs 12 says "Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God  and the faith in Jesus."

The COMMANDMENTS referred to in the Bible quotations above includes the SABBATH

Marlon,
Romans 3 states that all have sinned and come short, Jew and Gentile. The Wise is partially correct here.
However, there is no longer any need for ceremony, as stated in Colossians 2. All days belong to God; each is a gift. Good gifts come from the Father of light, not from accomplishing "any" ceremony.
The Lord bless you.
In His grip,

I realize my response it now 3 mths delayed, but... This may be the only time I am ever at this site, seeing as I found it in my search for information about the Sabbath.

I see where you're coming from, "The wise", but you seem to have forgotten that Moses is the one God chose to tell the Jews about the Sabbath (Exodus 16:21-24) Yes, the Sabbath was a part of the law of Moses (Exodus 20:1-17), or am I not clear as to what you are meaning by "the law of Moses"? About keeping the Sabbath... Jesus himself says that it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath (Matthew 12:1-13), which, in general, terms can be doing work on the Sabbath, thus not keeping it in accordance with what God says in the Old Testament about the Sabbath. Is Jesus unholy? If we are to call our selves Christians (Christ like) are we not to imitate our Lord in doing good on the Sabbath? Let us not be like the Pharisees whose focus was so on obedience to the Law that they did not give their hearts to God. Keep in mind that if it bothers your conscience not to keep the Sabbath, then keep it. Neither I nor anyone else can condemn you for that. Remember also that we gentiles do not practice Judaism we practice Christianity, and seeing as we, as Christians, are not held to all of the many rules that comprised the old law (I Corinthians 9:20-21), we are not condemned for not keeping the Sabbath. I encourage you to read Romans 14; a gentile’s observance of the Sabbath can be considered "a disputable matter".

I hope what God’s put on my heart to share with you has helped.

Peace be with you.

When you read on the God's commandments wrote in Sinai he wrote to keep it holy and do all our activities in six days but the seventh day is to keep it holy and to praise our Creator of world and heaven also in new testament written that it was a normaly for Jesus to go in synagogue on Sabbath not on Sunday or any other day.  so God says Remember the seventh day to keep it holy.

he would probably think it is very unreliable because he doesn't't ask them for much he just wants respect and that is the way to respect him because he cant control everything he has got to stop somewhere but everyone needs a rest sometimes and it means god can have a rest and so can his people.

Many Christians stress on the 4th commandment what about the 3rd commandment. How many people actually know the Almighty creator. Many profess to have an intimate relationship with him but they don't even know his name YHWH tetragrammaton and Yahweh an english vocalisation of this holy sacred name. He said not to bring his name to nought, he asked us to call on his name and we shall be blessed. How many Christians actually know that God isn't the name of our Almighty creator but words such as Lord, God etc were titles substituted for his name and have paganistic origins!

Exodus 31:16,17 tells us it was between Jehovah and the sons of Israel. Also as part of the hand written document it was blotted out at Christs death[Colossians 2:14] and as verse 16,17 of the same book say it was a shadow of the things to come. As Hebrews chapter 4 points to there is a greater reward and Sabbath resting for all true Christians.

God wants us to love Him. Love is demonstrated in several ways; but concerning the Sabbath Day when he said that man was not made for the Sabbath, He did not mean that it's optional, he meant that it was a day when man can be free form his earthly obligations. He then clearly went on to say that it is okay to do "GOOD WORKS" on the Sabbath, in this way man has the freedom to do what is good on the Sabbath meaning that he could get food if he is starving, and help his brother if he is in need. No matter what anyone says about this day, we all know that if Jesus were here now he would not only recognize the Sabbath, but He would trust that there was a reason for the specificity in the command (the seventh day= Saturday).

1.Sabbath Day is the seventh day of the week which is Saturday. The first day of the week is Sunday.
2.Daniel 7:25-"and shall intend to change times and law". Sunday was nominated by Roman emperor who was worshipping Sun as their god during 300A.D.
3.refer genesis 1:5 "so the evening and the morning were the first day". Roman King changed the timings of the day as midnight 12.00 as staring time of the day, whereas as per Bible, the day starts at sunset.
4.we should follow the commandment given by our Lord.Jesus Christ also wento to the church for preaching on the sabbath day Luke4:16-"And as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day".
5.The disciples of Jesus Christ also went to church for preaching on the sabbath day.

The seventh day or the first day of the week does not make the Sabbath. Neither is a day to relax going to a field trip and have fun. WE can go to a field trip but the main purpose of the Sabbath is to spend time with God. To have a day to meet with our creator, savior and God to dedicate quality time to Him, to thank Him and Praising and Worship Him as He is worthy. During the week we have to work and do all the things we need but one day we should dedicate it to have a celebration of His Love and If every person does this in the whole world. What a wonderful thing is that God will have this day to receive thanks, praises, and adoration from His creation. That is the purpose of the Sabbath: that we honor Him with our body, mind and soul.

The most important reference in the bible for Christians, with regard to the Sabbath, is found in Heb 3:7 - 4:11. The Sabbath-day is God's rest and He is desirous that we enter that rest by faith. Unbelief and disobedience prevent us from entering in.  Gods 'rest' depicts Salvation through Christ - "Come to me if you are burdened and heavy laden and I will give you REST" All saved Christians live in God's eternal Sabbath from the day they received Christ  as Lord and Saviour. Every day is therefore a Sabbath day for the Children of God and all days are equally holy for the Children of God! Sunday is only a practical day for the Children of God to worship together. It is most definately not holier than any other day.

I think that the Sabbath was made as a covenant between God and man were we see God as the creator of haven and earth. God is not compelling us to keep the Sabbath but he gave us the chose. The bible said “if you love me keep my comment” and if we love him we will keep his comment.

What the Bible says about it definitely should govern our thinking on the matter, should it not? . . . There are some Bible texts that I have found helpful on this subject.

God gave sabbath laws to the Jews.

Ex. 31:16, 17: "The sons of Israel must keep the sabbath, so as to carry out the sabbath during their generations. It is a covenant to time indefinite ["a perpetual covenant," RS]. Between me and the sons of Israel it is a sign to time indefinite." (Notice that sabbath observance was a sign between Jehovah and Israel; this would not be the case if everyone else were also obligated to keep the Sabbath. The Hebrew word rendered "perpetual" in RS is 'oh·lam', which basically means a period of time that, from the standpoint of the present, is indefinite or hidden from sight but of long duration. That can mean forever, but not necessarily so. At Numbers 25:13 the same Hebrew word is applied to the priesthood, which later ended, according to Hebrews 7:12.)

Rom. 10:4: "Christ is the end of the Law, so that everyone exercising faith may have righteousness." (Sabbath keeping was a part of that Law. God used Christ to bring that Law to its end. Our having a righteous standing with God depends on faith in Christ, not on keeping a weekly sabbath.) (Also Galatians 4:9-11; Ephesians 2:13-16)

Col. 2:13-16: "[God] kindly forgave us all our trespasses and blotted out the handwritten document against us, which consisted of decrees and which was in opposition to us . . . Therefore let no man judge you in eating and drinking or in respect of a festival or of an observance of the new moon or of a sabbath." (If a person was under the Mosaic Law and was judged guilty of profaning the Sabbath, he was to be stoned to death by the whole congregation, according to Exodus 31:14 and Numbers 15:32-35. Many who argue for sabbath keeping have reason to be glad that we are not under that Law. As shown in the scripture here quoted, an approved standing with God no longer requires observance of the sabbath requirement given to Israel.)

God gave us a list of things that we could and could not do. for example what to do eat and what not to eat, and this he did for our own benefit. if we were to follow his advise in our diet, there would not be so many sickness (diabetes,cancer, obesity etc.) which are the results for what our ancestors diet and our diet. Could it be that God had a plan for us to rest on Sabbath, I think that if we were to follow that command there would not be so many people suffering of stress, heart attacks or strokes. yes I believe is part of the law to rest on sabbath but the benefit is for us.

The New Covenant (New Testament) is "a better covenant" (Hebrews 8:6 KJV). The New Covenant is better for at least two reasons: The Old Covenant applied only to the Jews and no one could keep it because they did not have the power to do so, and if any of the Jews broke the Law at just one point they were guilty of breaking the whole Law (James 2:10 NIV). The New Covenant includes not only Jews if they repent of their sins and receive Jesus Christ (are born again), but Gentiles also.

Anyone who is born again (unlike unsaved Jews) has the grace (God-given desire and power) to obey all the commandments of the New Covenant (approximately 180). "The Law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ" (John 1:17).

God said in His Word, speaking of the Israelites after they left Egypt, "I gave them My sabbaths to be a sign between Me and them [the Israelites], that they might know that I am the Lord who sanctifies them. But the house of Israel rebelled against Me in the wilderness" (Ezekiel 20:12-13). God gave the sabbaths to Israel (the Jews), not Israel and the other nations.

Now, having said all the above, and knowing that it is the New Covenant by which we establish our practices and doctrines, where in the New Testament does it say that Christians should keep the Sabbath? Also, for those who want to keep the Sabbath, where does it say how to keep it? The only place in which the Bible contains instruction on how to observe the Sabbath is in the Law of the Old Covenant that was given to the Israelites only (Exodus 19:6; 35:1, 4).

It is not recorded anywhere in God's Word that He imposed Sabbath-keeping on any holy men of God (or anyone else), nor how to keep the Sabbath before the Law of Moses was given about 1425 B.C., more than 2,500 years after Creation! Again, God never commanded anyone, including holy men of God, to keep nor did He give instructions concerning how to keep the Sabbath prior to the giving of the Mosaic Law, including Adam (who walked with God and enjoyed an intimate relationship with Him until The Fall), Noah, Enoch (who walked with God for 300 years before he was raptured), Abraham, Isaac, Jacob (Israel), Joseph (who became Prime Minister of the Egyptians who did not observe the Sabbath) and others. In fact, there is no mention whatsoever of the Sabbath day in all the history of the Book of Genesis covering the first 2,500 years after Creation, and the Jews heard nothing about the Sabbath until after the Exodus, as recorded in Exodus 16:23. These truths alone should be enough for us to understand about the Sabbath.

Some of the commands concerning keeping the Sabbath are:

"Everyone is to stay where he is on the seventh day; no one is to go out" (Exodus 16:29). How many Sabbatarians break the Sabbath every week by traveling, even to go "worship" God on the Sabbath?

"Do not light a fire in any of your dwellings on the Sabbath day" (Exodus 35:3). How many Sabbaterians break the Sabbath by lighting a fire in their houses on the Sabbath?

"Whoever does any work on it [the Sabbath] must be put to death" (Exodus 35:2). A man was found gathering wood on a Sabbath day. "The Lord said to Moses, 'The man must die. The whole assembly must stone him outside the camp.' So the assembly took him outside the camp and stoned him to death, as the Lord commanded Moses" (Numbers 15:32-36). How many Sabbaterians obey God by the whole assembly taking a man out and stoning him to death for even gathering wood for a fire on the Sabbath?

First, we need to know how long was the Old Testament law in effect? That question is answered in Luke 16:16a: "The law and the prophets were until John [the Baptizer]." Of course, the Jews are still living under the Law because they are refusing to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. Paul said in the epistle to the Romans that, "Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth" (10:4).

Second, it was God's design for the Old Covenant to be replaced by the New. The writer to the Hebrews tells us, "For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second" (8:7). Just prior to this we are told that Jesus, who is our High Priest, "is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises" (8:6).

Third, we need to answer the question, What was the function of the Law? Paul tells us in the epistle to the Galatians: "Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the Seed [Jesus Christ] should come to who the promise was made....Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster" (3:19-25).

Fourth, we are living by grace under the New Covenant. Grace is the desire and power to do God's will. In the Gospel of John, God tells us that "the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ" (1:17).

Fifth, because we are not under the Law, does this mean that we can do what we want to? The inspired apostle Paul said, "Sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the [Old Covenant] law, but under grace. What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid" (Rom. 6:14-15).

Sixth and last, what did Jesus mean when He said, "If ye love me, keep my commandments" (John 14:15)? While we are not under the Old Covenant Law there are 180 New Testament commandments. We are commanded to obey God in these things that are clearly written in the New Testament. If we do not obey these commandments it is irrefutable proof that we do not love Jesus Christ.

1. The apostle Paul, a Jew said,  "I MYSELF AM NOT UNDER THE LAW" (1 Cor. 9:20).

2.  "ALL WHO RELY ON OBSERVING THE LAW ARE UNDER A CURSE" (Gal. 3:10).

3.  "CHRIST REDEEMED US FROM THE CURSE OF THE LAW" (Gal. 3:13).

4.  "NOW THAT FAITH HAS COME, WE ARE NO LONGER UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF THE LAW" (Gal. 3:25).

5.  "YOU HAVE BEEN SEVERED FROM CHRIST, YOU WHO ARE SEEKING TO BE JUSTIFIED BY LAW; YOU HAVE FALLEN FROM GRACE" (Gal. 5:4).

6. "IF YOU ARE LED BY THE SPIRIT YOU ARE NOT UNDER THE LAW" (Gal. 5:18).

7.  "THOSE WHO ARE CIRCUMCISED [JEWS] DO NOT EVEN KEEP THE LAW THEMSELVES" (Gal. 6:11).

8.  "IF RIGHTEOUSNESS COULD BE GAINED THROUGH [KEEPING] THE LAW, CHRIST DIED FOR NOTHING!" (Gal. 2:21).

9.  "GENTLES...DO NOT HAVE THE LAW...THEY DO NOT HAVE THE LAW" (Rom. 2:14) (Gentiles never have had the Law.)

10.  "NO ONE WILL BE DECLARED RIGHTEOUS IN HIS [GOD'S] SIGHT BY OBSERVING THE LAW" (Rom. 3:20).

11.  "SIN SHALL NOT BE YOUR MASTER, BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT UNDER LAW, BUT UNDER GRACE" (Rom. 6:14).

12.  "WE HAVE BEEN RELEASED FROM THE LAW SO THAT WE SERVE IN THE NEW WAY OF THE SPIRIT, AND NOT IN THE OLD WAY OF THE WRITTEN CODE" (Rom. 7:6).

13. "CHRIST IS THE END OF THE LAW ... FOR EVERYONE WHO BELIEVES" (Rom. 10:4).

I don't have my Bible with me to quote scripture, but from the Word of God that is engraved in and upon my heart I believe that all believers in Jesus Christ as their Saviour, and all of the Jewish people need to observe the Sabbath because it is a commandment from God.  Jesus said He did not come to do away with the Law of Moses, but to fulfil it.  Our Father God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob did not break His covenant with His people -- He is not a liar -- it is still active today; and He also said that we Gentiles who believe would be Heirs of Abraham.   Thus, I  (and all Gentile believers of Jesus Christ) am part of His Covenant by way of adoption and I love it and I stand for it.  I have not read anywhere in the Holy Scriptures that God removed His commandments.  So the real question should be:  "What does He mean by keeping the Sabbath Day  Holy?"  If we read the Scriptures we will know the answer.   For me, I keep it Holy by making every attempt to honor our heavenly Father, through His Son Jesus Christ, in all I think, say, hear, or do.  When I serve dinner I might use the best china, or when I prepare dinner I might fix my husband' s (if I were married) favorite dish, and light special candles, and when we would pray together, I will be sure to give thanks for the wonderful day of rest and joy.  I might want to honor our Father, through Jesus Christ, by taking a nice hike through the woods, or doing something special with my husband-to-be, such as raking the leaves.   If the Holy Ghost is not happy with me, He will let me know.   I love the Sabbath Day and I love the way the Holy Spirit has shown me to keep it Holy -- it is all part of having a personal relationship with our Savior, Jesus Christ .  If we each earnestly seek the answer, it will be given to us for Jesus said, ask anything in my Name and I will give it to you.  This is not a mystery! Praise His Name and Bring the Glory down!

The Sabbath day is holly. God chose this day to be his sign.God said that the earth and the sky will pass but His word won`t.So if he said that we must keep Sabbath holy that doesn`t change.Jesus didn`t change the law he showed us the character of the law and he surrely keept His day.Sabbat is God sign and those who don`t keep it holly are not His sons.

Hi Jessica,
<br>
<br>
This is a good question for your pastor. But just so I don’t look like

I’m chickening out on the tricky questions then I will give you my take

on the issue, but only if you promise to ask your pastor the question

too and respect his opinion over mine on this issue (he’s your pastor,

this sort of stuff is his job!)
<br>
<br>
Forgive me if I get a bit long-winded, I thought I would cover the whole

issue for you the best I can.
<br>
<br>
Anyway, on with the Sabbath...
<br>
<br>
> what does the Bible mean by keeping the Sabbath holy?
<br>
<br>
Yep, that’s <a

href="http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/bible?passage=Exodus+20:8"

target="_blank">Exodus 20:8</a>
<br>
<br>
This word Holy(kaw-dash') means to be set-aside specifically for the

will of God.
<br>
<br>
Imagine this, in your house you have things that are specifically set

aside for the will of eating (plates, forks, knives etc.) and you have

specific things that you have set aside for the purpose of cleaning the

toilet (umm...I hope) :-)
<br>
<br>
So whenever God says to keep something Holy then he’s saying keep it

aside for the specific purpose of God’s stuff. You wouldn’t use your

fork to wash the toilet, that’s not it’s job, the fork has been set

aside for the purpose of eating.
<br>
<br>
So God said to the children of Israel (via Moses) hey, guys, these are

the Ten Commandments one of them is to ‘keep the Sabbath Holy’.
<br>
<br>
Remember that God was doing business with the children of Israel (Later

on we’ll call them the Jews) to get them to a place where God could talk

to the world about the rescue mission of Jesus Christ (the coming

messiah) so one day a week was specifically set aside, no work was

allowed (specifically what is and is not allowed on the Sabbath is

covered quite nicely by the book of Leviticus).
<br>
<br>
But the apostle Paul calls every Christian to be Holy every day:
<br>
<br>
But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it

is written: "Be holy, because I am holy.”
<br>
<br>
<a

href="http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/bible?passage=1Peter+1:15-16"

target="_blank">1 Peter 1:15-16</a>
<br>
<br>
So the call to the Sabbath is not one to do whatever we please all week

and then catch-up and be Holy one day a week.
<br>
<br>
> Which day of the week is it?
<br>
<br>
The Sabbath day is generally respected as being what we would call a

Saturday, there are some differences between our Gregorian calendar

(named after Pope Gregory who said it would be a good idea to have a

calendar where the months and days are named after idols amongst other

things) and the Hebrew calendar. These changes to dates and seasons

where prophesied about well before Pope Gregory had even become a bump

on his mummy’s tummy (I digress!)
<br>
<br>
So which day of the week is it?
<br>
<br>
Yep, Saturday.
<br>
<br>
But a tradition has arisen in the church that we would no longer

celebrate the Sabbath but ‘the Lords’ day instead (yep, Sunday) so

that’s how Americans and the bulk of the western world got a two day

weekend as opposed to Gods original one day weekend.
<br>
<br>
So before you run away and declare that you can’t do anything but pray

and meditate from sundown on Friday night to sundown on Saturday then

lets take a look at what Jesus said:
<br>
<br>
"The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.
<br>
<br>
<a href="http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/bible?passage=Mark+2:27"

target="_blank">Mark 2:27</a>
<br>
<br>
What’s that you say? Oh, this is a law that was designed for my own

benefit? Yep.
<br>
<br>
So what should you do?
<br>
<br>
This is what I recommend, Don’t get all weird and legalistic about the

Sabbath and go and start some whole other denomination and cereal

company about it.
<br>
<br>
But instead ask yourself is their a reason that God decided to take a

day out to rest after he created the world (see Genesis 2:3) (in fact

the word ‘rested’ here is the Same word as Sabbath).
<br>
<br>
Why did God take one day out to rest? It wasn’t because he was tired it

was because he wanted YOU to do the same thing. You need to live

everyday as being set aside for God (be holy) but God calls you to take

one day out and rest.
<br>
<br>
What is rest?
<br>
<br>
Personally I would recommend that you switch off the TV, if you can’t

handle this that’s okay but in my opinion TV is to rest as Fairy-floss

is to food. It is sweet and enjoyable but you can’t live on a diet of

it.
<br>
<br>
When you rest, do what God did, look back at your week and see what you

thought was good and say ‘It is Good’ celebrate your successes, and

while you are at it why not take a look into next week and decide what

further exciting things your gonna do for the week.
<br>
<br>
Look at your pastor, he (okay, I guess your pastor may be a woman but is

it okay if I refer to his as a guy rather than writting s/he or it) he

probably takes one day off a week to rest but I bet if you ask him he

has to work hard to defend his rest time.
<br>
<br>
Your day of rest is a good day to remember that if you take the ‘F’ out

of life, then you are living a Lie. Take a look at these:
<br>
<br>
Faith
<br>
Family
<br>
Friends
<br>
Fun
<br>
<br>
All these things are good things to invest in on your day of rest. Pray

and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in what is a good day for you to

rest and how to spend your day of rest.
<br>
<br>
Well, I think that is probably enough on the topic. Hope it has helped.
<br>
<br>
Warm Regards,

The laws given to Moses was not just for the Jews (Juda)  but for all of the 12 Families of Israel.Therefore the law to keep the Sabath applies to the all who are decendents of these peoples. Further the Scripture clearly states that these are GOD'S laws not the law of the Jews, Moses, or any one else.

The Bible Say That For god so love the world that he gave his only begotten son, that who ever beleive in him should not perish but have every lasting life. For god did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world though him might be saved.

1.   Of an the words of Jesus on earth only 4 references are made of the
Sabbath (Mt.12:8; 24:20, Mk. 2: 27-28; Lk.6:5). He merely taught that it was lawfn1 to do good on this day and that no day is lord of man. He did not command any particular observance of any definite day.

2.   The old Jewish Sabbath was part of the contract between God and Israel and a token and sign of that covenant. (Ex. 20:8-11; 31:13-18; Ezek. 20:12-20. The contract was not made with man before the time of Moses (Dt. 5:2-3), or with Gentiles and the church (Rom. 2: 14: Dt. 4:7-10). The Sabbath was not for them.

3.   In no passage is it stated that men should keep the Jewish Sabbath to commemorate the old creation rest. It was 'to commemorate de1iverance from Egypt (Dr. 5:15). This was what they were to "remember" (Ex. 20:8)

4.   The 4th commandment was the only one of the ten commandments that was
Ceremonial and not a moral law. Its sole purpose was to commemorate the de1iverance from Egyptian bondage when Israel had no rest (Dt. 5: 15). It was a type of future and eternal rest (Col 2: 14-17; Heb. 4:1-11; 10:1). The physical and spiritual benefits of a rest day can be realized on any other day as well as on Saturday.

5.   The 4th commandment was the only one that could degenerate into a form without affecting the morals of men, all others concern moral "obligations of men. It is the only one of the ten that could be done away with and still leaves a moral law for men. God foretold and promised He would do away with the old Jewish Sabbath (Hos" 2:11; Isa. 1:10-15)

6.   It is the only commandment that could be and has been broken without breaking a moral law. Israel marched on that day (Num. 33:3: Lev. 23:5-11: Josh. 6:12-16): set up the tabernacle (Ex. 40:1, 17 with Lev. 23:5-11): searched Canaan (Num., 3:25): and made War (1 Ki. 20:29; 2Ki. 3:9: Josh. 6:12-16). David and others broke it and were blameless (Mt. 12:2-5)

7.   The N. T. permits Christians to keep any day as the Sabbath.
            (Rom. 14:1-13:Gal4:9-11: Col 2:1417). The ear1y Christians observed, not by
            commandment but by choice, as a group they chose the first day of the week,
            which was Sunday.
           (Jn. 20:1, 19:  20:7: 1Cor.16:2).

Everyone that speak on the subject of keeping the sabbath and keeping the first day as the day of worship seem to forget the person that made the days in question.

True believers of Jesus Christ must focus on the very person that set them free from all unrighteousness. We are drifting from the truth.

You see no matter what everyone else believes, the road to eternity is Jesus Christ alone.

but never the less I pray that we all grow in GOD'sgrace and never stop praying to the Lord
because we all fall short of his glory and we are all in need of a savior and his name is Jesus Christ. GOD BLESS

Jonnie says the Sabbath was made to benefit people - True.  But it also says that those not honoring the Sabbath should be put to death. That does not sound like there is a lot of room for other interpretations.  What is the actual biblical passage which allows we Christians to celebrate the Sabbath on Sunday?

The sabbath is the Lord's day, set apart each week for rest and worship. The Lord emphasized the importance of sabbath observance in the ten commandments: "Remember the sabbath to keep it holy..........." (Exodus 20:8...-[11]). thus, if we love our Lord, let us keep the sabbath day holy...

First find in the bible God's definition of a minute,hour,day,week,month or year. I do not think you will find it because time is man's invention used to measure the passage of all natural things. God is infinite both in time and space. Why would God care about the specific day that his creation set aside to worship him? And by the way, in what time zone was the LORD talking about when he wanted us to rest on the sabbath (seventh day) and keep it Holy? As a parent would you want your child to obey and respect you only on one specific day of the week? Love and revere God every day of your life.

Christians pick and choose which of the commands they are going to keep, but the Bible says that we are to keep all of his commandments. The 4th commandment says that we are to remember the Sabbath and keep it Holy. God said that 6 days he worked and that on the 7th day he rested and that we are to do no work on that day. The commandments were not a part of Moses law because they came straight from God himself. Yashua says in Matthew that he did not come to abolish the laws of the old testament but to fulfill them. So when Yashua was sacrificed for the remission of our sins, it only did away with the sacrificial laws because he was the final sacrifice. The Old Testament still apply today. It is really called Torah, which means teaching and instruction. If you study the New Testament you will find that the Apostles studied from and got their teaching not only from Yashua but also from Torah because the New Testament did not exist yet.

Mk 2:27 "And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:" :28  "Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath." The Sabath Day we are to keep it holy because God is holy. So, it is to be used as wiseley as God is holy. Responsibility cames with freedom. Let us know, how is the holy God respected and served in what and how you do what you do on the Sabath?

The sabath law is in the same tablet that forbids idol worship. That law comes before the laws against murder, adultery, covetousness, etc, so, logically it should be kept. The early church became predominantly Roman-based, and had sunday as the weekly day of worship to counteract the dominant sun-worship on sunday[from whence the day sunday is named], and it has become an established custom of the main-line churches. Does that cancel the sabath day? No. But it is difficult to change now.

"As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, [so] walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with [him] through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened
together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; [And] having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holy day, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath [days]: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body [is] of Christ. Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.

Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances, (Touch not; taste not; handle not; Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men? Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body; not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh. (Colossians 2:6-23)

Then shall the land enjoy her sabbaths, as long as it lieth desolate, and ye [be] in your enemies' land; [even] then shall the land rest, and enjoy her sabbaths. (Leviticus 26:34)
And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: (Mark 2:27) And it was the sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes. Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and do see. Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division
among them. (John 9:14-16)

One of the major reasons they crucified Jesus was, He was above their law and the priests couldn't handle that. The law was the control over Israel installed for that purpose. "At that time Jesus went on the sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were an hungred, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat. But when the Pharisees saw [it], they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the
sabbath day. (Matthew 12:1,2)

The New Testament Law superseded the Old Testament Law. Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. (Matthew 22:35-40)

Ask yourself this. If it does'ntmatter what day to keep,(sabbath or Lords day), why did our all knowing God state to rememmber the sabbath and to keep it. He knew they were going to change it, he also wants us to seak and find the truth. Should we keep a day man made or should we follow what the creator made. Do you think that Adam could of changed what tree was forrbidden? Does'nt it state the mark of his people is the ones that love him enouph to keep his laws and commandments to the end of this world an to continue to keep them in eternity with him?

It's important to honour the Sabath if you are a true child of God,Because God sanctified the day and made it holy for himself and all His children(Exd 20:8 ¶ Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Exd 20:9  Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
Exd 20:10  But the seventh day [is] the sabbath of the LORD thy God: [in it] thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that [is] within thy gates:
Exd 20:11  For [in] six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them [is], and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.)

The Sabbath was put in place as a time to remeber our creator and rejuvenate since our bodies run on a 7 day cicle.  Saturday is indeed the 7th day of the week however many religions have moved from this day for the more convinent sunday.  My question is, if God is the most important thing in our lives, why not devote the frist day of the weekend (7th day of the week)to him, why wait till the second day after we have done all our earthly things?

Hi Jonnie
The answer is so easy and logical, lets go back to the beginning when God created everything. God created Adam and Eve, oh and by the way... they were not Jews. and remember the only one working was God, he was busy creating, so guess what he needed a rest and chose one day to rest, that's right the 7th day. (Saturday) note: he only asked us for one day, not 2,3,4,or 5 only one. everything that we do on the Sabbath must be for the glory of our creator not us. we are nothing but to him we are everything and he should also be everything to us.

P.S Dennis my friend, the commandment does not commands us to Honor the 7th Day, it commands us to Honor God on the 7th day, though of course we should always honor him.

The Sabbath day is Saturday. It was changed to Sunday by man. What right does man have to change God's law? We are to keep the Sabbath holy and rest on that day. It's a day of rest and day where you're supposed to put distractions aside so you can focus on God.

Just as commanded by God, Christians work for six days and rest on the seventh day, which is Sunday, worshiping and honoring God. Christian are the real keeper of the Holy Sabbath.

Christians rest and worship on Sunday because they obey God to work for six days from Monday to Saturday and rest on Sunday. Sunday is a time of joy because Jesus overcame death and was raised from the dead.

Christians should not worship or celebrate on Saturn Day when Jesus is still in the tomb. Friday is also not a time for thanks giving or joy celebration because Jesus suffered torture and died on the cross on Friday.

Those who argued that Saturn Day is the Sabbath day need to take a second look at the Biblical verse. The Bible did not suggest Saturn Day (which is a calendar of Justinian invention) as the seventh or Sabbath day. For that matter, any day can be the seventh day. It depends on who sets the calendar in use.

In Borneo, the people use the western calender, but for practical purposes, the tradition of the native Dayak and Dusun people, Monday is always Day one, Saturday day six, and Sunday Day seven. Thus which day is first day or seventh day is a matter of definition shaped by cultural values.

Between time of creation and Moses, one wonder who kept the calender as to which day is the seventh day or day of rest. It would be interesting to find out when did the Jews started to calculate their calendar. The Muslim, for one, started their calendar or day one when Muhammad migrated to Medina. The Chinese calendar is defined by the birth of the Kings or major events during their reign.

The bottom line is that whether Monday is the first day or not is relative.

The present Western calender is Justinian and Georgian in origins. All the days, Moon Day, Zeus Day, ??? Day, Thors Day, ?? Day, Saturn Day and Sun Day are named after Greek or Roman deity. The question is who determined the first or seventh day? Of course, the one who created the calendar must have picked any one day to start his calendar.

Western calendar refers to the birth of Jesus as the first day of the Millennium. Historical account, however, will show the real date of Jesus birth is not accurate. The Justinian calendar is therefore relative.

Those who insist on Saturn Day as the seventh day or as the day of rest missed the points raisned in the Bible.

God commanded His people to work for six days and rest on the seventh day. God did not say to rest on day of the Greek God, Saturn Day.

Any day chosen to be the seventh or Sabbath day will be sacred and blessed by God. Christians decided to rest on Sunday after working for six days in fulfillment of God's commandment. Sunday is sacred to most Christians who observed Sabbath day on that day.

Incidentally, in the tradition of the natives of Borneo, Sunday is "hari Minggu" or literary, the seventh day. The Christian natives observed Sabbath day on the seventh day, which is "Hari Minggu" or Sunday, not Saturn Day, the Jewish Sabbath.

Which day is the seventh day is always in the eyes of the beholder. Any day chosen is sacred and Holy.

In God's eyes 1 day = 1000 years, 1000 years = 1 day.
That means when God created the heaven & the earth, it took him 1 day (should not necessarily mean 24 hrs). Also Sabath may not be 24 hours only. That has more symbolical nature.
So it's good to do good every day, rest every day.
No day is special in the eyes of the Lord (all are equal, again from the scripture).
