The mere fact that a system exists that can create infinite images within a finite set of numbers and can have as many variations as there are inputs, is enough use for most designers to use as arbitrary-form-generating-engines....without first going through requirements. As an architect, i can generate forms through the mandelbrot set which are seemingly totally random but are infact totally disciplined and, most importantly, PROPORTIONATE....allowing me to use them inelevations of buildings as simple patterns or mouldings etc. The scale being irrelevant, it can be reproduced at any level of detailing-right from wooden joinery items to murals on walls
