I have a 1934 $10.00 bill with a gold stamp behind the word TEN on the front and at the bottom it says Ten Dollars in Silver payable to the bearer on demand. Is this a gold cert or a silver cert and what is the value. It is in very good/fine condition.

Hi..you have a silver certificate no gold certificates were issued with the series year of 1934 except gold certificates that were used by banks only. The gold color stamp is the normal blue treasury seal used on silver certificates that has been discolored by certain chemicals. This removes the green component and your left with a yellow color.
Hope this helps.

Pete

What you have is, in fact, a $10.00 silver certificate that was produced by the treasury for issue to US Armed forces in North Africa and Sicily theatres of operations.  The seal is supposed to be yellow.

Actually this color is because it was a special note issued to the army to be used worldwide and easily distinguishable and rejected if attained by the enemy troops.  Hold that one!!!  It's a keepsake!!
