I have a 1996 Jetta 2.0 autotrans, just replace cracked ignition coil. Now the dashboard shift position indicator light flashes when the car is started. Engine runs fine until put in gear and then it bucks like crazy. Any ideas?

Well I can answer that... I have a 96 jetta too and the technical service bulletin calls for the screws and springs that set the shift points to be replaced... Any 01 m does that as mine did... the kit is 3.05, yes that is 3 bucks and 5 cents...  Please refer to http://www.alldata.com/service_provider/techrx/2005/200501212j.html
the deal is.. You have to remove the trans pan and replace the gasket... don't get those from a dealer... pickup a trans filter, and pan gasket from your local parts store..  Its not that rough.. I am no mechanic and I did it.. PS a few things you should know... dont break the fitting on the bottom of the pan.. you fill the trans by finding the nipple on the top and attach a piece of garden hose and a funnel..  the fitting on the bottom once removed drips until the trans is at an acceptable level then replace the plug.. also plan on putting a bottle of lucas oil trans additive in as well it just helps all tranny's... with correct tools and this info it should be golden in under 3 hours... also don't count on going to a junkyard and having any luck... all these trannys have this issue and it is just a matter of time.. but to attest to how good the repair works.. it inspired me to add a 9psi supercharger and several other accessories and yes at 195k my tranny still shifts reliably and yes thats 9psi on an automatic.. hope this helps all those whom have found themselves in these shoes.
