Yes, you can give benadryl to dogs. Dosage is 10 mg for dogs under 30lbs, 25mg for dogs 30-50lbs, and 50mg for dogs over 50lbs. I hope this helps you dogs!

According to my vet, Benadryl can be given for a runny nose twice a day.  Our dogs itchy paws have gotten better after washing them in water with Epsom salt in it.

My dog was itching badly and there was no fleas, red marks, hot spots etc.  When she would scratch she would pull hair out on her foot and lose it on the carpet.  She was miserable and so were we.   We gave her a  Benadryl a day and that stopped her problem.

Sulfodene shampoo also works great for itchy paws (or itchy anything).  It is available at WalMart for about $3-$4.

I too have a poodle with allergy problems.  I haven't had much such with the Benadryl, but the thing that has changed our lives is changing his food.  I never would have thought of it--he was being fed high-quality Eukanuba.

What I use now is Nutro Natural Choice Lamb and Rice.  Within two weeks, the incessant itching of his ears and feet (he used to lick them raw) has completely gone away.  I highly recommend it.

the dosage info given a few answers up is partly incorrect.  The dosage should actually be 1mg per lb.  So a 13lb dog would receive 13mg of benadryl up to 2 times in a 24 hour period.  A 150lb dog would receive 150mg's up to twice in a 24 hour period.

I love my dog so much that I give her benadryl to calm her.  She is just a year old now and WILD.  She does have the itchy paws too but I find that the benadrly keeps her managable in the apartment.

believe it or not theirs alot of common things we use for are own well being that can be used for our pets too. however, always check with you vet before giving anything to your furry little friends and keep a close eye on them for at least an hour and notify your vet emidetly if something is not right.

my stepmums golden retriever is allergic to fabric softener and bites her paws when shes in contact with clothes. She had injections from the vet but they didn't help so my stepmum has started giving her child doses of piriton and it has worked wonders!

Please make sure your Benadryl is pure Diphenhydramine.  There are some Benadryls that contain other ingredients that may be lethal for dogs!  And some that do not contain any Diphenhydramine at all!

My understanding is that a common symptom of food allergies is itchy paws...you may want to have your vet rule that out before you use the "Benadryl band-aid!!"

itchy paws and skin isnt always external allergy related...a lot of people dont know that corn in dog food, as well as sometimes wheat, can cause many problems such as itchy skin, paw chewing, ear infections, hyperactivity and many other issues. your solution could be as simple as switching to a food without corn. there are a lot of very affordable options, diamond naturals, nutro, natures recipe...do your dog a favor and at least try it! dog food is so important!!!

Also, if you pet suffers from anything else that causes them to itch you can give about a 40 lbs. dog 1 tsp. It's better to give your dog a smaller dosage at first to see their initial reaction to the amount.
