A genetic defect? Is this limited to the Bull Terriers?  I own an American Staffordshire, and she has a Dudley nose, as my neighbors brought up.  Is this just a cosmetic issue, or are there other implications?  What does this indicate about the dog itself?

What the Dudley nose means for anyone with an AMSTAFF is that the AKC, bright bunch of people that they are, refer to this and some other markings as defects.

From what I can understand, a liver-colored nose brings in too much resemblance to a pit bull...i.e. a red nosed pit. In all, your dog is great, and the AKC is clueless sometimes.

IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE IF YOU'RE NOT SHOWING THE DOG, IT'S SIMPLY A COSMETIC FAULT.

Dudley Nose is simply a different skin pigmentation, it says nothing "about the dog itself" (i.e. the myth that "pink nose" pit bulls are more agressive is untrue.)
