All puppies like to chew, what I would do and have done with my siberian is get a chew toy and play with them with the toy and only allow biting on this toy  and at the time you are playing with them.  They are very energetic and need to have alot of attention to teach them what and how to play.

We recently adopted a two year old husky. When she gets excited or wants to play, she also nips. What we have done to deal with this is have toys available that are hers to chew on. If she starts nipping me, I firmly tell her "NO", fold my arms and refuse to give her any attention. Once she's calmed down, I give her a toy or take her out out to play. I find that most of the time she starts to nip, she just has a lot of extra energy or wants to play. By channeling her her energy this way, she has almost completely stopped nipping.

I have a new puppy also, she likes to nip when she is in the play mode.  I started to scold her every time she nips and she is very persistent.  It seems if I have the last word I win.  She actually verbally argues with me about the "no" issue.  I used to raise German Shephards but I find this puppy way superior in intelligence.  She was potty trained in one night and knows to differenciate all the things she is allowed to do an not to do. They are absulutely amazing animals.

We have two Siberian Huskys that are inside and the chewing on everything was a problem. We bought lots of chew toys and pig ears and a training aid spray called Grannick's Bitter Apple that we bought from PetsMart. It worked great and we have had no problem since we started using this product.

Siberians are VERY intelligent and learn how to make you live by their standards. It sounds like here that your dog has you very well trained to give her anything she wants. When she chews on you say !NO! very sharply and when she misbehaves then punish her verbally and give her absolutely NO attention till she calms down. This will take alot of time and patience since she has established her self as the leader of the house. Even wen you're discouraged it is VITAL that you don't let her get away with this even one out of fifty times or she won't learn. They take awhile to train but they stick to it. Show her that she is at the bottom of the totem pole and that humans come first and she will become the joy of your life. These are very sweet dogs that love to please you. Get something burny or sour to put on the things she's not supposed to chew on. Good luck!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, huskies LOVE to chew! Our husky loves to chew on raw hides. We also still have 2 of her pups that are 9 weeks old and they are trying to chew on everything. My advise is make sure you let them them know as soon as you get them that they are not allowed to chew on you, your furniture, etc.

I have a 6 month old puppy, Kira and she is totally gorgeous. she still chews a bit especially when she is playful. i bought her a Kong ball, and put pork treats and dog chocolates in it and it keeps her amused for ages. when i got her, i saw her playing with her parents and noticed when they had enough of her biting them, they bit her back lightly on her face. i read from a book that this is usually to discipline their puppies. when Kira bites i grab her by the scruff on the back of her neck and firmly tell her no. this doesn't hurt her and works pretty well. Since dogs are pack animals they think of you as part of their pack. You need to let your dog know that you are their pack leader.

Our husky mix is now 12 wks old.  She also nips and chews a LOT.  I just talked with a husky owner that suggests finding a "doggy day care" or some place similar where the older dogs can teach her manners.  He said it's the only thing that worked for his husky.

Huskies are very sweet , and gentle dogs but if they are not given a firm hand I could see them being a nightmare. You HAVE to teach them that you are the boss and you make the decisions or they will take control and be rowdy. If your friend said the only way was day care then he needed to be more firm...and loving. One of the most important things with Huskies is to gain their affection. This is easy as the crave your love and they will do anything to please you once they get it so don't send your dog away. Get a book and videos on training and build a relationship. These are amazing dogs and if it is done right they are a joy to train! One thing I have found with my Huskies is the more attention, love, and security in the fact that you are the boss, the better they will behave and the easier they will train. But if they are neglected and feel like they are being shoved on a shelf out of your life they will become rowdy, loud, dominant, and disobedient. They just need to know that you love them and they will be fine! Good luck! Tanisha

My young Siberian was notorious for nipping me in the back of my calves.  I tried to dicipline her by saying no and spanking her, but nothing seemed to work.  Everytime I diciplined her she thought I was playing even though she usually listened very well.  So, what I did is...she would come up behind me to nip me while I was walking and I would just lift my feet up very high when I was walking.  I ran across the yard multiple times keeping my legs high when I brought them back.  She would come up behind me to nip me and she got kicked.  She did this once or twice and I haven't had any problems since.  Also, I give her her play toys when I have something to do.  She doesn't get these all the time.  I choose certain times to give them to her.  By doing this she chews on them when I need her to.  If I gave them to her all the time, then when I need or really want her to chew on those she wouldn't because what I am doing would become more interesting.

I have two huskies, one is 3yrs old fully trained and the other is 1 yr/ 3mo. They both chew all the time. When I first got my 3yr old she was 2 months she loved to play rough and bite I broke her of that in less than a week by folding in the side of her mouth and giving her a taste of her own medicine, by making her bite herself. I know it sounds mean but she had a bad problem. Now even if you stick  your hand in her mouth she gently pulls away. Even if she gets excited and you have a toy in your hand she doesn't even nip by accident, she can tell if your hand is on the toy, my male is the same way.

I recently came across an 11 week old Siberian Husky. She's a very loving and good girl. But sometimes she ruff house's a little to much and it hurts. Her teeth are really sharp, and she would prefer to chew on my sheets or carpet. She rarely bites me but she likes to hold my hand in her mouth. She doesn't bite me, but this seems odd to me. Is this normal?
I also have another question. I cant seem to figure out how to get her potty trained. Nothing I have tried works. Please help me.

Go to http://www.siberianhuskysecrets.com for info on training huskies.
Chewing is normal for pups and, while young, they need to be trained not to. Your dog is not trying to hurt you, she is playing when she mouths your hand. You need to teach her that it hurts you. Start training her as soon as possible before she hits adolescence with this habit already deeply rooted. Then you'd really have a pickle!

Hi. I used to have the same problem with Jake, my Siberian Husky! He used to bite people when he was over exited and sometimes he used to bite our cats. One day when he was about 14 months old Jake bit my 3 year old daughter and i thought, this is the last straw. Whenever he bit anything from then on, he was put in the shed, for half and hour and ignored, when he went a while without biting he got a treat, and so on. After a couple of weeks he learned that it was no good biting people even "play biting" like allot of puppies do. And from then on he NEVER bit anyone again!

My siberian husky which is now 14-15 weeks now likes to bite a lot. Sometimes even jump on my kitchen table stealing food when Im not there. he does it to the other members of the family except for my stepdad and I. All we do is stare the husky down and he'll bark back, go away or either lay down. Always works, try staring at your dog in the eyes.

My husky just gave birth to 6 healthy puppies. Both parents live in the house....so we have decided to seperate them in the best interest of the puppies.  My husband thinks that it's safe to allow the male near the female and her pups.  I think it's a very bad idea, therefore, they have been seperated.  Is it safe to allow him near her and if so, how long do we need to keep them seperated?

We have a 9 week old Siberian Husky that enjoys chewing.  If your pup is young, try this exercise.  Hold her/him against your chest, when pup tries to get loose and whines, hold more firmly until pup stops. This shows them you are Alpha.  With biting, when pup bites, hold her nose firm and say "no bite", then re-direct pup by giving him/her one of their toys.  Do this CONSISTANTLY, it will work.

when i first got my husky she nipped allot i used the gently grabbing her jaws routine and holding them shut and firmly saying no!and it worked very well. i would reward her when she didn't nip at my hands for a treat but I'm having a problem with this below any input would be appreciated.

i have tried everything with my husky to get her to stop leaving "puddles" on the floor she promptly comes in from outside and straight away pees on the floor. within seconds I'm not kidding even after she has had a nice long leak outside she will pee. i tried the paper routine the gently shaking her by the scruff on the neck and growling at her and establishing dominance over her but it hasn't worked. please help!

We have a 9 month old whom we recieved from a third owner.  The problem with "Ivory" (A gorgeous white sibe whose name was "Zoe".) is that no one really established the alpha role with her and either didn't want to or was too old to handle her.  When it comes to me if she gets too rough I get up and she knows it's time to head for the hills because I established up front who the boss was.  I have a 6 year old boy and 7 & 12 year old girls.  I defend the younger ones when she plays to rough with them.  My 12 year old is too lazy and Ivory has picked up on this.  She also knows my wife would prefer to "bark" rather than take action.  I tell them all that she will understand the pecking order and try to make her place unless they take action.  As far as small children go (4th grade or less.), an adult should be present to establish order and let the dog know that there are consequences. (I put her outside on our deck. We have bay windows so she can see all the activity inside. She hates being separated from the "pack". She also stays in her harness. This allows me to snatch her up without hurting her.  When she tries to nip I literally pick her up in the air much like a pup would be carried and put her where "I" want her to go.  Do not grab by the collar as this sends an alarm if they begin to choke.  When dogs go for the jugular it is more of a choke manuever than anything else.)  As the child gets older they can then take over.  However, do not let the child undo what has been built up!!!  They are very bright, but excitable.  Just as other kids get excited when another child runs, guess who will too?  They could be lying asleep and it takes one thing to send them into "playtime" mode.  Teaching and training work both ways.

we have a husky called Demon (1 yr), like off the Disney film snow dogs! He is the most amazing dog, he's well behaved most of the time, the only bad thing about him is that he nips us or barks at us when he wants to play. We even let him off the lead for walks and when we call him he comes back, unlike other huskies who would just run away!

Your dog doesn't know it hurts when she's bitting you, so, you have to teach her.
When she's bitting your hand say OUCH! really loud and egxagerated so she understands it hurts. Human skin isn't as strong as puppy skin, so you must teach her that.
It may take a couple of days.

i have a totally adorable husky! her name is Dakota! she is about a month old! she is so nice, playful, and smart but when she starts to bite i forget all of that! since she is only a puppy...it doesn't hurt...but when she gets older it could hurt somebody a lot!
SO HERES WHAT YOU SHOULD DO:
i don't believe that physical contact will make a dog stop biting. It could actually make then more violent. So here is what I do. Every time she bites me i scream very loud and make an expression like it hurt! this will make her understand that if it hurt you than she wont do it! ITS THAT EASY! YOU SHOULD TRY IT WITH YOUR HUSKY OR ANY KINDA DOG! IF YOU DO THIS I PROMISE YOU THAT YOUR DOG WILL GROW UP TO BE THE MOST PLAYFUL, FUN, NICE, AND SMART DOG EVER!!! THANKS,,,MORIAH CAMERON :)

I have a 6 1/2 year old Siberian and she is the most wonderful, relaxed, loving, well-behaved - human dog i have ever known, everyone that meets her falls in love with her. I always have to assure them that she is mine forever and im never giving her up. As a pup Sienna was quiet, played nicely, never nipped, was ok to be alone and has never made a sound since except for a few playful "yaps" when i really get her in a playful mood. For an answer to the question that your Husky wont play with any toys, Sienna wont touch any toy that doesnt make a sound, so she has alot of toys that squeek, bark, rattle. She wont go near a ball or anything that doesnt make a sound, try that and she how you go. I recently got Sienna her own Siberian Puppy, 6 weeks old Acacia, for when i am at work to keep her company. Now Acacia is such a little brat! Chews everything, bites feet when your trying to walk, annoys Sienna alot and makes her bleed, howls if i even go outside to the bin!!! Wakes me up four or five times a night, goes to the toilet inside, bites my face, hands everything!!!! She has a million and one toys, has all Sienna's toys and also has Sienna! She is just so smart and wants to make sure she is boss. Sienna is also too timid to put her in her place. All i can do is suffer through the puppy stage, trying all that my husky books and websites recommend, keep everything out of her reach and give her as much love as possible. Its very true what they say that all Huskies have different personallities, i never thought they could be so naughty. I find with bitting the scruff of the neck shake works best and growling to her. Trust me when they annoy you that much a deep throated growls comes out really easy. Good luck and never give up because just remember puppys are excatly like having children, if anyone has every gone through the terrible twos with children they will know what its all about.
