my rot- pit mix does and will probably pass his water rescue training easily at one year old. pits are very strong swimmers and this activity reduces joint stress while giving a great workout especially in a young developing dog

pitbulls are the number one breed most likely to drown. there weight per size makes most swim as well as a bowling ball.some can swim well, but it is rare and usually the result of a fat dog.swimming is the one thing this breed does not excel at. anyone who says otherwise, is speaking only opinion.

i own a pure and mix,my mix has rot in him so i think it comes from the rot, cause my pure didn't have web feet, and pure bread Pitt's have a hard time swimming cause all there muscle causes them to sink, fat cause them to float,it is possiable for pure bread pitts to have web feet though cause it could possiably be 97% pure and 3% other but still is considered pure bread

PIT BULL/AMSTAFFS appear to have webbed feet but not as webbed as a duck to the dumbass who made the comparison. Its extra skin that helps them swim and claw curved surfaces allowing more freedom for each claw to move independently. Im not sure if they 'grow out of it' or not.

I used to work at a pet store and we bred pittbulls. We had two blood lines we worked with which was corvino and alligator. The alligator bloodline pitt's feet resembled an actual alligator's foot which is webbed.

Pitbulls are not a recognized breed so pure american pitbull is rather vague. so until the breed is purified and recognized the I think some will have webbed feet and some won't.  Personally I would like to see them with them so it will be something they can have other than being good fighters. That seems to be all that those assholes like zebo care about witch ruins there reputations keeping me from be comfertible with having them off leash witch mine is able to do without killing everything.

theres no such thing as  a pure bred pit as people say pittbull and other bull breeds are mixed to be what they are now so some might have webbed feet some may not  alldepends on what dogs there origin was bred from to make them pittbulls now read up on the dogs what you keep and find out about what bullbreeds were bred to make your pittbulls today

I had a papered blue brindle pitbull that was dually registered, APBA and UKC. He did NOT have webbed feet.

I have a pitbull now, that the owner swears is purebred without papers, and although at first glance he looks like a pure pitbull, he is NOT. He has webbed feet.

Several breeds have webbed feet. Newfoundlands, Otter Hounds, Labrador Retrievers, to name a few. Basically, dogs that are known water dogs have webbed feet to help them swim.

The webbing between their toes does not help with stability.

So if your pitbull has webbed feet, what you have is a pitbull x. The dog is not purebred, and if you paid money for a purebred pitbull, you have been ripped off.

As a breeder I have come to notice more and more pit bulls having big ulgy rat web toes! The site of these feet make me sick and turn me away from breeding the pit bull.  The reason why this is happening is because when a dog becomes popular more people begain to breed, and this messes up the breed because people dont know what they are doing. If you have a pitbull with web feet get it fixed and do not breed it. These things are also caused from inbreeding. It's us breeders that are ruining the pitbull breed.

I HAVE AN ALLIGATOR PIT. THEY DO HAVE WEBBED FEET. MINE IS BRINDLE AND 11 MONTHS OLD. HE IS OF A PURE BLOODLINE. ALLIGATOR PITS ARE VERY RARE AND HAS THE DOMINEER OF A LAB. THEY ARE GREAT HUNTERS AND THE WEBBED FEET ARE TO HELP THEM SWIM WHEN HUNTING FOR GAME IN THE WATER SUCH AS DUCK OR OTHER WATER FOWL. I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT MY PITT HAS WEBBED FEET AND HE IS SUPPOSED TO ACCORDING TO HIS BLOODLINE.

There are currently 25 different waterbred breed of dog. Full Webbing is a dominant feature of waterbred dogs and is often passed on in mixes and crosses. Purebred Pit Bulls do not have full webbing. Full webbing is webbing that extends to the tip of the dogs toes. Most dogs do have some sort of skin that can be mistaken as webbing between their toes, but true water bred crosses will have full arch to tip webbing on both their back and front feet.

do any of you really know what webbed feet are? really now, every body here has a different opinion and no facts! All dogs have webbed feet! the shapes are what differs a "good" swimmer from a "bad" swimmer. Also some dogs have more webbing then others, most of them being sporting dogs. so of course pit bulls have webbed feet, they might just be webbed more or less then other pit bulls and that is beacuse there is no they have no standerd. which is why they are not recognized by kennel clubs, just like border collies! 8)

First off several breeds of dogs do have webbed feet. They would be many of the hunting/water breeds. Labs, Weims and such. American Pit bulls are not the worst swimmers in the canine world that is far from fact. Though many are the equal of doggie rocks. Still many can in fact tread water rather well and on the flip many don't. That is true of several breeds. The actual breeds that are in real danger with water would be the extremely flat faced and short legged breeds. Such as pugs, bassets etc. They are quite easy to identify as the body configuration makes it obvious they are at a disadvantage in the water. So if you have a dog with webbed feet? Rest assured at some point there was a mix. It could even be generations back. There was some sort of sporting water breed in your dogs family tree.

Yes, Pit Bulls in fact may have webbed feet.  Please keep in mind, Pit Bulls are not recognized as an "official" breed, they are a type of Terrier, which is a recognized breed.  Variations of Terrier may have webbed feet, and the American pit bull may as well.  This is due to certain breeders desiring a strong hunting/retriever type dog.

Some of your answers are hilarious!  Since I've had pits, I've done quite a bit of studying on the breed.  NO "pit bull" is "pure", that is, a real pit bull is already a conglomeration of several breeds, 3 to be exact - bull terrier being of them.  That's why you will sometimes see a pit with ears that stand up naturally.  Some pit bulls have webbed paws (not feet), and here in Florida where pits are wildly popular, they're called "gator-pits", as an adopted term, not technical.  There are all kinds of pits:  Miami Blue, Brindle, Red Nose, and the list goes on and on.

Pit bulls do not have webbed feet.  My pit bull does have webbed feet because it is half lab.  If your pit bull has webbed feet than it is not a pure breed pit bull.  Your dog can not grow out of webbed feet.  Dogs do not have the capability to morf.

It depends on the breed. Many breeds are bred for water acitivty and have webbed feet, it does NOT make them a mutt, or a freak. My staffordshire bull terrier has webbed feet, but she is likely a mix. It doesn't matter, really. And webbed feet are only for swimming-not stability. Stop being so judgemental on dogs with webbed feet! Ever seen a Newfoundlander?!

Well - we have a Labrador Boxer mix looking so much like a pit that she fools any expert. Our Veterinarian looked at her feet, though, and smiled. According to her the duck paws clearly show the Retriever ancestry. But I heard another story saying that retrievers are party of the ancestry of some pitbull lines. So...

The dogs normally having webbed feet are Labrador, Golden Retriever, New Foundlander and their derivatives.

I'm glad all of you are happy to give your opinions on the subject, but if someone might take the time to sight a reference that would be nice.  Pits having a high possibility of drowning makes sense, but where did you come up with that?  A random survey of dogs you've thrown off docks?  While I don't any facts to contribute, I have a brindle colored dog that people swear is a pit, but he can swim very well, retrieves like a champ, catches frisbees, and has webbed feet.  What do I think?  He's a funny colored lab.

Pit bulls are not known for their webbed feet. In fact they are not one of the official webbed breeds. They do have spaced toes that have skin between them and this should not be confused with webbing. If you would like to observe webbing on a dog and see what it truly looks like I would suggest that you look at a Newfoundlands feet. They are the largest breed with webbed feet. The webbing is in no way for stability or for balance, it is for swimming. All water breeds have webbing, as do Akitas, Toy Poodles, and Red-bone Coonhounds. If your pit does have webbing you may want to consider the fact that it is a new breed and what was your "Pure Blood" actually bred from. There are no official standards for this breed yet for this reason. The breed is not well enough established in its own DNA to have standards.
