I recently aquired a rottie at two years of age,he has been with us six months and seemed to be adjusting well. He recently began growling every time I go to pet him or come near him. I have no idea why this behavior is happening.I have a 14 year old chow chow who still likes to rule the roost and does.I take my rottie with me to the store ,he gets excirsed, fed well, treats, and mostly love. Does anyone else have this problem? I don't know what happened.

Dee, it sounds like he is testing his boundaries.  Do you have him enrolled in any obedience classes?  You need to get him in a strict training routine.

Rottweilers require life long training.  They are SMART and if they think they can take over and boss YOU, they will.

Where are you located?  Contact your local breed club.  I can get you in touch with some people in your area if you're not sure where to start.

Good luck!

My husband and I are considering adopting a rotti and german shepherd mix.  Male. 1yr old.  Is it too late for obedience training?  We both work all day. My husband's schedule does vary.  Allowing him to be home somedays by 2p in the afternoon.  However, that is the lesser not the majority.  Should this too be a concern?  Even w/adequate exercise?
