Is it normal for a shih-tzu  puppy's teeth to be in two rows?  My Brewer has two teeth behind the front row of teeth on the bottom of his jaw.  His canines look fine and the top row of teeth is normal.

My Shih Tzu has two rows of teeth on the bottom.  The veterinarian says that her mouth is too small for all her teeth, so some teeth go behind all the others.  This is not the way the teeth should be.

My Shih Tzu has two rows of bottom teeth also. I thought this was very strange and wasn't sure if this was just my dog or did other Shih Tzus have it also.

MY CHLOE HAS TWO SETS OF TEETH ON THE BOTTOM. THE VET CALLS IT "SHARK'S TEETH". HE SAID YOU SHOULD HAVE THEM REMOVED BECAUSE FOOD WILL GET STUCK IN BETWEEN BUT IF YOU BRUSH THEM AND KEEP THE AREA IN BETWEEN CLEAN THERE SHOULDN'T BE ANY PROBLEMS DOWN THE ROAD.

My Shih Tzu's teeth are in a double row on the bottom also.  I have been looking for information to see if this is normal.  She doesn't seem to be bothered by this and her teeth stay clean.  However, she's only a year old and I'm a little concerned.

My Shih Tzu has two rows of upper and lower teeth.  Is this normal? It seems not to be very rare..I assumed his mom was a Shih Tzu and his dad was a shark. =) Who knows? Maybe.

My Shiba Inu has his same problem and apparently if by nine months of age she still has it, I need to get her baby teeth pulled.  It could be the same with Shih Tzus.

My Callie has the same problem. I just thought that it was her.  She has what we call and under bit her bottom teeth stick out further than her top.

My Shih Tzu also has two rows of teeth.  My vet said that he is, in fact, not part shark, but due to the flattness of Shih Tzu'sfaces, their teeth tend to crowd, making it look like they have two rows of teeth.  If this is the case, your dog probably won't be a show dog, but he/she should be just fine.

Hello all!
Well the reason why your shih tzu'shave  two rows of teeth is b/c sometimes the baby teeth don't fall out (the root doesn't dissolve) then the adult teeth still push thro where they can.  My veterinarian right away warned me about this and it could cost up to $100 a tooth to remove (the baby ones) which she HIGHLY recommended.  My pup doesn't have her adult teeth yet -but i 'm definitely not in a big hurry!

It is common.  Mine had two rows until she was a year and a half old.  My vet had suggested we pull the extra teeth but they finally came out on their own so I am glad I didn't.

My co-worker has the same problem with her papapoo. Teeth problems seem to be more prevalent in the small breeds. Their issues derive from a physically small mouth/jaw and inbreeding. You probably need to see your vet for advice. The smaller row of teeth are your dog's "baby" teeth which never fell out. They need to be pulled.

I am baby sitting a 5 month old pup. Just noticed he has tiny teeth, two rows of them on the upper part! They look just like shark tooth. Is that normal too? or not? he is 5 months and I would imagine that all the teeth should be filled by now!
