Lovebug, you are an idiot. Bull-terrier type dogs came from English and Irish Immagrants who traveled to America. They were fought over there, and brought here to sell to fanciers here in America. Mainly southern states. The dogs were NOT beat or harmed in ANY way. Dogmen from the past generally treated there dogs more lovingly then MOST people of today. The dogs were bred solely on the basis of proving gameness. The will and determination to keep going when anything is in there way. If you beat a dog, I would bet it would bite you before another dog. What dogman would want a scared people aggressive dog in the pit, matching against another dog with the handler (which most of the time was NOT the owner) and the other handler and the referee. Thats right, 3 people, including TWO strangers in a 16x16 box and 2 dogs matching. And then when both dogs are in a heated battle, have the strangers splitting them apart. YOU PEOPLE NEED TO LEARN. And, only rarely did dogmen let there dogs die in the match. Figure, you work the dog from pup hood, school him, spend 8-10 hours a day with him for up to 90 days before a match, DONT YOU THINK THEY WOULD HAVE MORE RESPECT FOR HIM. The dogs were matched to prove themselves. Not prove there owners. Just like show breeders cull unshow worthy dogs, dogmen culled "curs" They bred best to best, cause any worse would ruin there line. RESPECT the men and women who strived to breed what our breed is TODAY. Disrespect the idiots breeding unproven dogs for the sake they are pretty or are nice dogs. An unproven dog IN ANY SPORT ( show, weightpull, or even the box) is SIMPLY A PET, and should be FIXED.

Pitbulls were brought here by da Irish n da English. a lot of ppl think that they r a bad breed n they complain about other dogs such as tha rotty n mastiffs etc... wut every1 has to realize is that there is no such thing as a bad breed. Put it like this, there r bad ppl n there r good ppl of all different races. jus like us, there are bad dogs n good dogs of all different breeds. i really frown on the idea of descruting tha pitbull race. ppl need to realize that the dog is not a weapon n they need to stop watchin all these music videos n stuff. they r probably 1 of the best dogs u can have and on a list of dogs who have attacked its owner, tha pitbull was not even 1 of the top 5. tha number 1 dog was a golden retriever. so go figure. pitbulls rule n if u think about destroying them, we will lose a great companion and even a family member. 4 those who want to get rid of the pitbulls, do us a favour...save the world, kill urself

An English breeder in the early 1800 mixed bread two dogs. 1: American Bull Dog and 2: American Terrier. He trained them to fight and when the time came, he bet the Queen of New England that 3 of his dogs can take down a half ton BULL! Queen laughed at him and said yeah right! So she took the bet and announced it to the whole country that 3 dogs would take down a half ton BULL! So all across England, came and watch this amazing event. Sure enough, the BULL took out 2 dogs and the 3rd one took the BULL down. As everyone watched with shocking news that the last breed of dog took down the half ton BULL. The Queen banded the dog and forbidden that type of breed never again be on New England soil. So the breeder took his winnings and his dogs and fled to America.

Pit bulls were not breed to fight but to protect there family's, not all pits are what people think but it is how the dog is raised that make the name a bad rep, Pits were also raised for hunting such as boars, bears, and others. I had 2 pits and they were great around other dogs and cats and my hole life that I had the breed as a pet they do protect the family in such a way. I'm not sure who started the breed but like any other breed, they were breed for hunting and not for fighting. Dog fight didn't start till 1915 and that its when they started to get the most aggressive dog which the pit and chow were about the major breeds for fighting. Pits are great dogs, and they are most loving dogs, pits are not the only dogs that lock there jaw but there is about 32 breeds that do that anyways. But need to read books on the breed and learn, not just assume because all that does is make you an ass.

pitbulls came from bulldogs and difrent teriers they were not bred to fight they were hunters they would hunt bulls and hogs they would lach on to a tenderspot like the ears till it fell to the ground i think fighting dogs is cruel and wrong no one should do that how would u like it if we put u in a ring with anotehr human and had u fightt to the death its the same thing isnt it ther a liveing creater and should not be foght for your pleasure i have 2 pitbulls i didnt even get ther ears croped cas thats kinda cruel to but not as bad as fighting them i would have to say pitbulls are the best breed they are they are nice unless u train them to be mean and they will protect ther family even if they die trying they are loyal pets and i respect my dogs just like they are human

I think that some of your posts are correct to some extent. However, I am no one person to say who is right or wrong. I have been around pitbulls since I was only a month old. Yes, of course pitbulls had to come into the world by the breeding of several different breeds. Like people of different countries they have their distinguishing marks that separate them from other dogs. Some people believe a dog has to prove itself to be worthy to be part of a bloodline or to fight. I do not believe in anyone who fights the dogs for sheer pleasure or money, that is wrong. Most likely no dog on earth is really full blooded, I mean you can have all the papers on it you want to, but you weren't alive to trace its background, so guess what, you don't know! Really I think its good for a dog to have some mix in it, just like pitbulls, have a mix of several breeds, its what makes them strong and loyal. If you notice a list of common health problems are being linked to certain breeds, most likely a full blooded dog will have these severe conditions, which is also most likely caused from inbreeding, or attempting to keep a bloodline pure. When in reality, you never really know if your line is mixed or not. In addition, a dog never has to prove himself worthy of any title you may give, I have seen the most gentlest dogs, take on amazing challenges when in knowing that its owner was in danger. I don't think the dogs should have to be put through such brutality, especially pitbulls, haven't they already proved enough?

Pitbull's ancestors were bull baiting dogs (bulldogs). They were used to pin specific bulls and hold them (usually by the nose) so that the rancher/butcher could get a hand on them (much easier than chasing him around on a horse). These original bulldogs looked a lot like American Bulldogs, just not as bulky. Bullbaiting was outlawed in England but dog on dog fighting was still very legal so Bulldogs were crossed with smaller, more agile terriers to create a small/medium sized dog that would do better in the fighting pit. Pitbulls themselves WERE NOT BRED TO HUNT. They were bred to fight other dogs and win. Bulldogs (original bulldogs didn't look like the little stubby bulldog we have today) were used for hunting occaisionally, Pitbulls were used in the fighting pit, before they were called pitbulls they were called "Pit dogs" or "Pit fighting terriers" and all kinds of other names. Some are nice to other animals, true, these are poorly bred pieces of crap, any well bred pitbull should naturally want to fight another dog of the same sex, especially if it's 2 males. Good representatives of the pitbull breed would rather die fighting in the pit, than run away and live. These dogs also get along with people very well. It's the only dog on Earth that mentions how good they are with kids in the breed description. Remember Petey from the Little Rascals? How did pitbulls go from a child loving fighting dog to a crazed psycho beast back alley dog that'd kill anything that walks? Poor breeding by dumb inbred rednecks and wannabe gangstas...if you want to blame somebody, blame those idiots.

I saw some guy say feeding your dog gunpowder and raw meat will make him turn on you...he's right and wrong. Feeding your dog raw meat is the best diet in the world. What do wolves eat? Where do dogs come from? Wolves eat meat, dogs come from wolves, so meat is great for them. The Germans have ben feeding their highline German Shepherds and Rottweilers all natural diets for years and you can see what they got. Extremely healthy dogs with good hips and eyes that could work as police dogs even at 10 years of age. You should research the BARF diet, raw muscle meat isn't enough nutritionally, you have to add other things such as liver, and kidney, and raw/steamed vegetables to make it a balanced diets. BARF stands for Bones And Raw Foods diet. Cooked bones will splinter and kill your dog, raw bones are fine. As for the gunpowder...It burns the stomach lining, kind of like an ulcer, and it hurts really bad therefore causing the dog to act psycho out of pain...anybody stupid enough to feed a dog gunpowder should be shot in the forehead...repeatedly. There's only 3 reasons in the entire world why your own dog would bite you. 1 is a mistake...you're dog accidentally got in a fight with your other dog, you tried to break them up, and you got bit. That happened to me before when my rottie jumped on my boxer, when I split them up the rottie grabbed my hand...couldn't ball a fist for 4 months. The second reason is your dog is extremely dominant...he thinks he runs you, and when you do something he doesn't like, he puts you in your place by kicking your butt aka biting you. If your dog is like that it's YOUR fault for not teaching your dominant dog who the boss is. I have a really dominant female German Shepherd from East German workinglines, she used to come after me in training when I'd correct her for not obeying. I bought a dominant dog collar, it's sort of like a choke collar but tighter on the neck, it's designed to take the air from the dog immediately without jerking, just pull it and it chokes them. When she'd come after me in training I'd hold her up by that collar for about 30 seconds, just until I thought she was going to pass out, then I'd set her back down. After about 2 days she got the point. I'm the boss. Some people think that's cruel, but I'd rather her have to go through 2 days of getting her butt kicked, than for me to take her and have her put down because I wasn't tough enough mentally to show her who's boss. When you work with tough dogs you'll eventually get a dog who thinks he/she is tougher than you. Correct the problem or it'll get worse. Now the 3rd reason your own dog that you've had for a while would bite you is the most common. Your dog is a poorly bred piece of crap. Some idiot decided he should put his two dogs together yet knows nothing about breeding. Most breeders don't. Most breeders have a few dogs and make a few litters a year. This is called backyard hobby breeding. These guys make the Rottweilers with bad hips, the pitbulls with personality problems, and the golden retrievers who scratch so much their hair falls out. These dogs are so badly bred or even inbred that they're crazy...literally. They're so scared of everything that they're insane, they think everything is trying to get them. If you make them scared enough and they feel they can't run, they'll bite you, those dogs are called fear biters. I can tell a lot of these posters are idiots by the way they spell...or by the way they can't spell I should say. I don't expect people who spell "breed" as "bread" to understand this post...bread is a food not a dog genius. That goes for the genius' (yes there were more than 1) who spell "their" or "they're" as "there". You could see the gentlemen from Alabama trying to breed his pitbulls? He could barely spell, what makes him think he can master the complicated art of breeding? Picking two dogs, recognizing their qualities, and matching them...he can't recognize how to spell, I also highly doubt he knows the breed standard for the American Pitbull Terrier...I highly doubt half of you know what a breed standard is. It's a written document that explains exactly what a pitbull should look and act like. Real breeders know their breed's standards off the top of their head, I have the standard for the German Shepherd, Pitbull, and Rottweiler burned in mine. So now you clearly see where crappy dogs come from...dummies in redneck places such as Alabama. The End.

ok listen people I do not know exactly where pitbulls come from but I do know that a few of u r way off and I have been in the pitbull business since I was like 8 years old and I am 15 now I have about 19 dogs now but i used to have atleast 42 or more and I do know one thing that it does depend on how the dog is raised and who the dog is raised around and if u feed a dog human scraps the dog will try to starve itself because the human scraps have so much fat in them that it refreshes the dogs taste and DON'T I REPEAT DON'T FEED YOUR DOG GUNPOWDER OR RAW MEAT because a dog is known to turn on you quick that way

A yo I don't know where the breed came from all I know is that I love my pit bulls to death. They are like my best friends and no my dogs are not fighting machines they are just good dogs yo. they came from a bulldog and a breed of terrier. they are the most amazing dogs on earth. they will go all out to please you .The American pitbull terrier comes in all varietes.they aren`t just one dog such as:Greylines Blooblood Rednose Chinamen Colby my favorite is greyline but if you ask me i would take any pit you gave me that is how much I like them.other dogs come in on look and color pitbull range with beauty.

Pitbulls came in this world for ME. I love pitbulls so much i got one and her name is ROXIE. Shes the most loyal dog I ever had. i got a American Pitbull Terrier. It is black with a white patch on its chest and one her two back paws. She is nine and a half months old.

pits were developed in the U.S. not england.. hence their name.. the american bulldog was not involved.. they were developed by breeding the old english fighting dogs, like the original staffy bull, with other dogs.. including, bulldogs, english white terrier, the black and tan terriers etc...sorry but that is the BRIEF explanation....

pitbulls or bull terriers where breed for wild pig hunting in 1788 by a french man who in fact got the breed started off wit a bull dog and terrier mix so there is you answer i think that all of the dogs fighting are now game blood line like umm... gator jeep so keep up all u fighters and give me a blue gator while your at it i need me a male too breed wit so tell me in tha forum where i can reach one of you at i am in birmingham alabama

the first pitbull came to america by ship his name was christopher pitbullus but he wasnt an apbt he was an actuall "pitbull" but after breeding with several native tribal breeds they came up with the apbt!

Pit Bulls were bred by having a bull dog and a terrior put together.! I love pit bulls to death i personaly have eleven pits at home (Maybaline, Toby, Karma, Rocky, Lucy, Shiana, and 5 puppies.)

Their ancestors were brought to the Unites States in the mid - 1800's by Boston-Irish immigrants. Originally bred from a variety of bulldogs and terriers, American breeders increased their weight and gave the m a more powerful head. A forbearer to the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, they were originally bred to be a fighting dog. Bull baiting was banned in England in 1835 and these dogs are no longer been bred to fights. There is some complication in registries of this breed. The AKC considers the American Staffordshire Terrier as separate and distinct from the American Pit Bull Terrier, yet the UKC will register both as American Pit Bull Terriers (APBTs).

Hi I am a licenced pitbull breeder and right now i have 46 purbread pitbulls and i do not know were they origanly came from. I do know if i ever herd anyone was fighting them in a pit fight i would have to hunt them down and do something about it.

I think that anyone who thinks that Pit bulls were born to be fought you are so f**k up! Like I told my Homies ask your self these questions... would you kill your bestfrind? Then why kill a dog?

I think that pitbulls were breeded with bull dogs, cause their body only bigger. there head looks different though.

i think pitbulls smart they show respect and love 2 there owner,they were not born mean, its all depens from the owner, how will owner treat the dog thats how the dog will treat another. check it out http://gprime.net/flash.php/thepitbullproblem

The pitbulls originally came from wolfs but, all dogs originally from wolfs. But that is just what I think what do you say????
