The word 'warlock' comes from the Old English word 'waer logger', which literally means 'covenant breaker'. It could also come from the Icelandic word 'vordlokkr' - person who can summon the spirits. Basically, 'warlock' is generally (in this present day) used to mean 'oath breaker', and 'traitor'.

People generally perceive a warlock to be a male witch and indeed, some pagans use the word warlock to mean such. However, most pagans (Wiccans included) consider the word an insult because of it's literal meaning of traitor.

Overall, depending on what somebody believes, a warlock is a male witch (generally untrue but widely believed) or a traitor (more true but not so well known). As for it's relevance to Wicca, well, I'm sure you can form your own opinions based on the definitions above. I can safely say though, that it will vary from person to tradition, and that you can be Wiccan with never thinking about warlocks at all :)

I hope that answers your question. Wicca is so large and broad in it's beliefs sometimes, it's hard to define.

Warlock is considerd to be a male witch. However this term is not usually used in Wicca. A Witch is also a male and a female. So, instead of using warlock you could use witch as well.

ok for one the term "warlock" that is associated with wicca is translated as an "oathbreaker" and well when first staring in wicca you make an oath to aid others and never use magic for beneficial terms or use it to bend people against their will so if a witch uses a spell that goes against that oath they are from then on striped of their magical powers and refered to as a "warlock" so in their next life they must have all things bad that they did in their past life done to them three fold as punishment and often sealed inside of hell and tortured for eternity.
this is what has been said and taught to me so as i know the consequences if i ere to break my oath
