I just recently found a blue mark on the back of my Newfoundland pups' tongue - to the side.
Do some Newfoundland dogs have birthmarks on their tongues??

This appears to be inherited - my nearly-4-month-old pup came up with a dot on his tongue, I checked with my breeder, and it is inherited from his dad's side. Now he has several dots, and it is rather charming! Check with your breeder first, or your vet if this doesn't put your concerns to rest. Good luck

I have heard that markings on the tongue of a dog, means in som form there is a relation to Chow Chow. I don't know if that is true but everyone I had adked says that.My pit had a spot on his tongue it turned out his grandmomma was chow chow. He is still a great dog

I had a Pure Breed Golden Retriever that had a black spot on his tongue and the vet told me the same thing about some where in his blood line there must have been a mix up and some chow must have gotten in there.  I was none too happy about that.  I alway wondered why his coat was so thick.  He was gorgeous and turned out to be the most mild mannered retriever I have ever had.

Black markings on the tongue of a golden retriever or lab means that they are the most pure from England and considered to be more oriented towards hunting.

I have two German shepperd's that we're both rescued from abused homes. My male has always had a black dot on his tongue, my female didn't when I first got her. But now I notice that she also has the same black dot. Could this be that they are missing something from their diet?

I have a six month old female golden retriever and also found a black dot on her tongue. I wasn't sure if it was a mark that she isn't a purebred if it is I'm not going to be to happy. I was going to breed her.
