tcp/ip is a protocol. and a protocol is like a set language that allows two or more computers to talk to each other. it's kinda like english is the standard language at the moment just like tcp is to computers. tcp is the protocol that allows the computer to interact with another without confusion. ip is the language of the internet.

TCP= Transfer Connection Protocol
IP= Internet Protocol

TCP does all the physical addressing.
IP does all the logical addressing scheme.

TCP = Transmission Control Protocol

Definition :
A virtual circuit protocol that is one of the core protocols of the Internet protocol suite, often simply referred to as TCP/IP

IP = Internet Protocol

Definintion :
A data-oriented protocol used for communicating data across a packet-switched internetwork.
