Winrunner is basically a tool which can be used by Testers. It uses TSL language for scripting. Through Winrunner we can perform Functional and Regression Testing.

QTP is a tool which is specially designed for Business Analysts (Domain Experts). This is a sophisticated tool wherein the knowledge of TSL is not required and the test scripts are written using simple english language. Then the script written in English language is converted into TSL by the tool. This tool basically is User Friendly tool.

Winrunner doesn't support all the environments such as .net , where as QTP supports such things. And it is difficult to write scripting in winrunner since it uses C language, where as QTP scripting is easy since it uses VBScript.

WinRunner is a Mercury product built in VC++, thus the GUIScript in this application ie the TSL is a subset of VC++ which is very easy to understand.

Rational SQA robot is built in VB thus the GUI Script in this case is a subset ob VB.
Rational Robot is prefered over WinRunner for testing of VB gui applications

The WinRunner interface forces the user to look directly at TSL code.  TSL is the WinRunner programming language developed by Mercury.  It is based on the “C” programming language and therefore looks very similar.  For testers who do not have a technical background, they are not always comfortable with having to always look at code.  However QuickTest Pro offers a “Tree View” which is an icon-based view of the script.  This is very easy to get used to and non-technical people adapt to it quicker and feel more comfortable working with it.  For the technical user, they can always switch over to the “Expert View” in QuickTest and look directly at code, and program away using VBScript.

Use Robot to:
1)Perform full functional testing -
Record and play back scripts that navigate through your application and test the state  of objects through verification points.

2)Perform full performance testing -
Use Rational Robot and Rational TestManager together to record and play back sessions that help you determine whether a multiclient system is performing within user-defined standards under varying loads.

3)Create and edit scripts using the SQABasic and VU scripting environments-
The Robot editor provides color-coded commands with keyword Help for powerful integrated programming during script development. (VU scripting is used with sessions in performance testing.)

4) Test applications developed with IDEs such as Visual Studio.NET, Java,
HTML, Visual Basic, Oracle Forms, Delphi, and PowerBuilder. You can test
objects even if they are not visible in the application’s interface.

5) Collect diagnostic information about an application during script playback -
We can play back scripts under a diagnostic tool and see the
results in the log.

We buy your company¡¯s product Rational Robot. But now we found it don¡¯t support Third part Control for .net like DevExpress.Edit.Combobox.
We Can Record the action, but it Can¡¯t be RePlayAction. It¡¯ Will Throw The Error information Like Next Line.

**** script_ Command Failure on line 14 of 'test' ¨C

I Guess it¡¯s The DotNetSpy can¡¯t get the Control Information. So I Hope I Can modify the DotNetSpy.dll Code.
Can I Get The dll¡¯s Source Code from you, or get some Support or suggest from you ?
