i am looking at buying a old billiard table from the 1800's but the people im buying it from have said that there are no pockets on the table. I though that the only difference were that the billiards balls were smaller than in regular pool?? they have also said that there is only 6 balls? Where do the balls go when your playing.

billiards is a game without pockets as opposed to pocket pool which is often called billiards. so if you are buying an old "billiard" table it is indeed without pockets. the six balls assuming they are billiard balls should be without any markings and of three or two only colors. usually red and white, or red white and yellow
