Suppose that you want to send an MP3 file to a friend, but your friends ISP limits the amount of incoming mail to 1 MB and the MP3 file is 4 MB.  Is there a way to handle this situation by using RFC 822 and MIME?

The "correct" answer to this problem is:

If the ISP does not support receiving a 4MB file, a URL to the file’s location can be sent instead.  This will allow the receiver to open the MP3 on-line and save it to his/her local machine.  The MIME “external-body” subtype supports this.

(However, you'd think that the "partial" subtype in MIME would allow the file to be fragmented and re-assembled at the receivers machine to fix the same problem????)
