probably because your dog was feed table food and he doesn't like the dry food you are giving him or her.Try not feeding it for a day or two then give it some Ol' Roy dog food. I have two pitbulls that i started on table food that eat the Ol' Roy now and they love it.

My dogs did the same thing so I made food completely unavailable to them and at each meal showed them food. If they didn't show interest I took it away and repeated it next meal time. It took about 5 skipped meals but they've never been picky about it since. Tanisha

Your dog is snubbing dry food because you are feeding a high corn content food.  You need a food that has real meat in it.  Try Nutro Max Beef & Rice or Nutro Max for Large Breed (made with real beef meal).  There is no ground corn or by-products or chemical preservatives.  They will also decrease shedding and eliminate excessive itching.  They guarantee it.  Don't worry about the price, as they will eat less of this food because they are digesting more.

Canidae and Nutro are both good foods your dog is likely to gobble up. Mine prefer Nutro, even though the quality isn't up to Canidae's Please, no Alpo or Ol' Roy. For pitbulls that is fine because we would rather them die young anyway, but not for a dog that can be considered a companion.

Why would you ever say "we would like pit bulls to die young anyway"?  What kind of animal lover are you?  If you put aside your ignorance for a minute you would know that that is how pit bulls have been bred and that their sometimes aggressive dispositions are thanks to their owners.  I'm offended by your lack of compassion.

Avoid any dry food with corn meal (hard to digest) or animal by products (not safe and not tested) as these are just fillers and not healthy for your animal.  Try to find a food that is high in protein and lists the first ingredient as meat (chicken, beef, or lamb meal) and their second ingredient as either more meat, or rice.

To help your dog eat, find a healthy dry treat he/she enjoys, and break it into small pieces and mix it in the dog food.  Praise your dog when he/she eats.  It should only take a few times before your dog begins to eat the food.

Avoid putting oils or broths over the food, as the dog will begin to expect it, and won't eat the food without it.  It could also upset your dogs stomach.  The best bet to get your dog eating is to keep the food dry.

You may want to try to teach it new tricks with the dog food in your hand.  Maybe it knows a few tricks already.  Praise him/her with delight and the dog food.

Good luck!

I feed my dog Innova.  It's an extremely high quality food (top two ingredients are turkey and chicken; everything is human-grade).  I rarely have problems with him not wanting to eat.  If he does refuse to eat--fine.  He won't get anything else until he eats what he's given.

Your dog isn't stupid.  It'll eat when it's hungry.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Meat vs. Meal ....on Pet Food labeling
What does the real difference mean to your pets and you?
Meat
(Chicken & Lamb are 70% water and only 15% protein)

Pet food labels found in grocery and mass marketers like to use Chicken or Lamb to represent real meat. – (Contains 70% moisture). This leads you the consumer to believe that their product is meat based. Chicken or lamb meats are heavier than grains prior to cooking. The moisture contained in the meats (70%) is reduced by 2/3rds after the cooking process, leaving the total formula as a grain base food after processing.

VS.

Meal
(Chicken Meal and Lamb Meal are dry and 50% to 65% protein) meat protein!

Canidae Pet foods list Chicken Meal & Turkey meal as the first ingredients. Chicken, Turkey and Lamb meals are dry and are less than 10% moisture and contain 50% - 65% meat proteins. In processing the meat meals do not shrink below the grain weight, producing a true meat based formula for your carnivores. AAFCO label rules require that, the heaviest to the lightest ingredients be the order on the guaranteed analysis panel, (with or without water content)

Opinions about specific breeds of dogs or brands of dog food aside, following is a reliable way of getting your dog to eat his otherwise untouched dry dog food:

1) Over a five-day period, mix your dog's dry food with a canned dog food he likes. On day one, this should be in a 1:1 ratio. By day five, this should be in a 1:5 ratio (1 part canned food for 5 parts dry food).

2) When your dog walks away from his food bowl, whether or not there is food left, remove the food bowl. This will teach him not to take his food for granted.

I hope this information is useful.

Please do not starve your dog to get it too eat.  It may not be eating because the food does not agree with it or because of a health reason, you don't want to train a dog to desperately eat because, aside from it being inhumane, it may mask important cues.  Additionally I question the value of not feeding your dog to get it to eat, even if the dog only eats when it feels like it, its probably getting more nutrition than if you starve it for a few days.  A healthy dog will not starve itself if the food is marginally decent.
Oh, I agree 'Ol'Royis possibly the worst food available.

More expensive pet food brands are rarely much better than the cheaper brands. I've heard MANY stories of dogs living on Kibbles and Bits and similar foods and being healthy and living to 15! Dogs do not need "human grade" foods. They are not human, and if left to their own resources will eat parts of an animal that would gross most people out. And if a brand claims that it is "human grade" - please now that this is no more than a BOGUS MARKETING TERM. It is not a legally defined term and there is no "grading" of ingredients. Every product that enters a pet food plant is considered a pet food ingredient. Companies who use a term like that are just trying to guilt you into spending more money than you need to. And "human grade" is a RELATIVE term. For instance, in the U.S. people generally don't eat chicken feet. So that probably would not be considered human grade food. But in other countries chicken feet are a delicacy - so there it is definitely human grade.

Bottom line: don't let people or companies guilt you into buying some super-expensive foo-foo diet for your dog. My vet's opinion is that you need look no further than Purina Dog Chow.

You see, I put my puppy on Innova puppy food, assuming I was doing the right thing - well even though I gradually switched her diet, the Innova made her sick. Not knowing it was the dog food, I rushed her to the vet. She turned out to be ok, so the only thing it could have been was her food (she is confined when I'm not watching, so there is nothing she could have gotten into). My vet (who does not sell any pet food besides prescription, btw) says that those super premium brands can be too rich for dogs, especially puppies. And that despite, super premium brand claims, dogs do just as well on plain old Purina.

Feed your dog whatever works for him/her and remember one important thing that my vet told me when I told her about Innova and it's claims: "Everyone has something to sell"

It's true - those expensive brands want your money as bad as the cheaper brands do. And they will use any tactic including guilt and invalid claims like "human grade" to get you to spend more money on their product. And they are laughing all the way to the bank.

All of you bunny huggers wouldnt know what to feed your dogs, they probably just sit around getting fat! I buy dog food by the ton, and own 30 finally tuned athletic machines, they are gritty, have more endurance than a marathon runner, the smoothest coat you can imagine, as for itching all dogs do it, all dogs poop, some more than others, you don't see what a dog food does on a dog if it isn't receiving the peak amount of exercise, I have two little bluetick hound females that get ran on the back country roads, 15 miles full tilt next to a pick up , twice a week, all my hounds have daily excersize, whether its running the roads, tread milled, or dragging chains, I have tried every dog food, when a dog is at this level of fitness, you tell real quick what foods have it and what don't, by the amount of energy they have the next day following a 15 mile run, these dogs are my life, they are what I make my living on, guiding hunts. i am sure everyone doesn't keep their dogs in as good a shape as I do, but then again no one really has the need, this debate about dog food is really personal preference, I don't feed ole roy, but have my dogs loved it and it gave them plenty of energy, as far as the crap posted about PETA! as far as I'm concerned they are just a terrorist group, they have been saying that what I am doing is wrong, but if the truth was none fluffy would rather be out hunting in the wild, than sitting on the couch getting fat, I love dogs, and would discourage the reference to Peta, alf, or any of those organizations that try to inhibit peoples rites by malicious propaganda.   -cathoundman

Through the years I have switched dry dog food brands for my 13 year old Wheaten Terrier, usually due to coughing, throwing up, and not eating except when I would add a little meat.  I have been trying canned food, and find that it does not stay in his stomach and long and he will eat it.  So far he has not had any problems.

I agree that Ol Roy is not a good food to feed.  It makes your dog feel full but does not have the nutrients you dog needs.  If you are worried about price try Nutro Max.  It is a good price for what you are getting.  Of course there are others such as Merrick, Natural Balance and Wellness but they are a little more pricey.

Ol' Roy may not be the best food but it is the only food that my dog has been healthy on. Just ask my shocked vet. He ate Ol' Roy until he was a year old. The vet could not believe how healhty his teeth and gums were and how shiny his coat was. Then on the vets request we swithced our dog to so called better food. For three years now I have not found a dog food that he can eat. The shiny coat is gone and my poor wonderful dog either has vomiting or diarehha from the food. So sometimes the cheap food if better. I also had two farm dogs that lived to be 16 years old and guess what they ate Ol' Roy.

i found my dog wasnt eating all of her food, and i went through six brands before an informative person told me that dogs over 6 sometimes have a hard time chewing hard food, because it may hurt thier teeth.  I used a new brand that was meant for old dogs, as it was softer and she seems fine now.

My dog is a puppy, she eats, but not regularly.  there is no pattern to her eating habits, but I am still worried.  I'm wondering if the food is to big or to hard, or is it something else?

innova is a really good dog food.I would assess the situation did he eat anything that day that may have upset his stomach or have you noticed any signs of him acting strange? And if no consider this  if you decide too switch his food do this slowly you basically want to keep the stool hard. Your pitbull may be bored with his food. But don't keep switching it because then he will become really picky and it's not good to keep switching his food you may want to offer him food if he doesn'tstart eating it within 10 minutes or so pick it up and then put it back down to see if he will eat it. If he will not eat it and you switch his food i might consider taking him to the vet. to make sure nothing is wrong internally.Anyway back to the food stay with a natural food product one that doesn't have ground yellow corn or corn meal also avoid dried beef pulp and rice as the first ingredient this is used as a filler exspecially if it's just white rice .Sometimes these things can cause an allergic reaction(beef pulp and corn). Some good foods are solid gold, newman's own, natural balance, blue buffalo, (petsmart carries blue buffalo and another good food is the petsmart brand it is called authority but only the harvest baked kind is good). Some of these foods have vegetables in them like cranberries which is good for the urinary track and also look for flaxseed which is good for the skin and coat. And like what others have said stay with dry food and look for the meat product to be first and it would be good if there was a meat product as the first and second ingredient.OK I'm finished writing:) thanks for listening

I don't think Ol'Roy is a good dog food.My dog got really sick and she just only had diarrhea

The dog food for you I recommend if you use ol'roy..dont use it

my sisters German shepherd really enjoys a dog food that has no ground corn in it.any dog food that has corn in it..its BAD!

LIKE PEDIGREE
BENIFUL
DOG CHOW
KIBBLES N BITS
Purina

dont get those..they have ground corn and remember what i said.its bad!

My sister gets her dog natural balance..he has a lot of energy and a healthy coat.its just beautiful

REMEMBER..no OL'ROY..ITS BAD..IT makes your dog have a bad digestive problem..and she/he will have diarrhea

well you know what i mean

i promise

go to petco..they'll help you..any dog food that has NO ground CORN IN IT..ITS GOOD FOR YOUR DOG..NO GROUND CORN ..IT MAKES YOUR DOG SICK AS heck

MY dog eats Nutro Max and she loves it a lot and her crap is solid and no weird..but as long as its solid.its fine..but old Roy gets her sick

JUST TRY Nutro MAX

its a good dog food..i promise! :-)

or natural balance..is a good dog food also..

thanks

I feed my dogs dry food and I enhance it by adding a little water and the stuff that has them gobbling it down. The stuff is created by putting carrots on the bottom of a large crock pot and a sirloin tip or pot roast on top and cook slowly. Just add enough to enhance the dry stuff and refrigerate the rest for the next meal. This mix will last me a week of two daily feedings.  I also give them a teaspoon of flax seeds in the mix and two brazil nuts (crushed) a week. One dog gets some plain yogurt. I'm feeding Purina One now because I dont want to give my dogs chicken. I really need to do more home work on the dry as I'm sure there must be something better. If you have researched it what is your pick?

feeding your dog is really important. buying cheap dog food is less expensive, but your dog will have to eat more.avoid bad ingredients such as BHT, BHA, ole roy, by-products, corn and soy ingredients in the first five ingredients, and ethoxyquin. these ingredients can harm your dog. make sure to read the ingredients before buying their food. ol'roy is a horrible brand. it contains BHT ingredients, which can provide your dog with cancer.
did you know? that pedigree large adult dog formula contain BHT and BHA?-very harmful.also bad-purina:everything, diamond, gravy train, and iams.

Good brands would be:
-royal canin
-wellness
-nutro
-chicken coup for the pet lover's soul
-california natural

*has some corn, but very little

wet dog food doesn't have much of these harmful ingredients, so you could feed your dogs that.i think the buying a good brand for your dog is the right thing to do and i also  know that, that little extra cost is worth my doggie's life!
oh yeah, some of milkbone treats/biscuits also has harmful ingredients.

take it from the doggiediva. you can't go wrong with her.

P.S and to that jerk who didn't care about the pitbulls,GO TO HELL! these dogs have a life, but obviously YOU don't!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
treat them with respect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you wouldn't want anyone to treat you like that just because you're sort of different and of course a heartless b****!

It's packed with vitamins too.  It even tastes good to me too!! Goes good with coffee.

You should try feeding your dog out of your hand. Then if your dog doesn't eat it, force it into it's mouth and make sure your dog doesn't spit it out. To make sure of this, put your hand under your dogs mouth. Also I suggest Science Diet dog food.

I adopted a 7 year old Sheppard/Collie from the SPCA three weeks ago. His previous owner had passed away and he was at the SPCA for 2 weeks before we adopted him.  For the first couple of days, he wouldn't eat, which we expected from stress of being in a new home.  We tried first Nutro Brown Rice and Lamb.  Harley turned his nose at it.  We left it and after a day, added a little Nutro canned.  Still wouldn't eat it.  So we tried Science Diet and he took a few nibbles at that.  Vet said he may have been on a human food diet and gave me some suggestions, which of course didn't work.  We tried 7 different brands of kibble and 4 different brands of canned.  All high end stuff.  Finally, we bough a bag of Kibbles and Bits and he ate it, but only if he was hand fed.  From everything we tried, it seems that he likes to eat after dinner.  He doesn't beg for food, but gets excited when he sees the dinner plates going from the table to the kitchen counter.  We tried giving him a little of the beef or potatoe from out meal alone, and he would nibble.  Tried mixing it into kibble and just a couple of bites.  He only gets one treat per day, which is a holistic treat.  We have determined though that he is a beef eater.

In reading these posts, I'm going to try putting his kibble down at breakfast, leave it for an hour then take it up.  Repeat at lunch and dinner.  What I'd like to know is the person thate recommended Nutro Max Beef and Rice and Nutro Large breed, do you know if that is still sold?  I can't find it (Ontario).

Thank you.

Gisele

Pit bulls are wonderful dogs if they are raised correctly. My pit bull is the most loving dog I've ever had. He smiles at everyone he meets, licks kids to death, does not bite- not even once (after we taught him as a puppy when playing), If we are playing and my hand gets in his mouth, he does not bite it. He has the best personality and I'm blessed to have him as my dog. With a little love and proper manners, any dog is capable of being a good dog.

If you are trying to get him to switch from canned food to dry food, try mixing a little dry food with the canned food, gradually increasing the dry food until he is weened from the canned food. Also, IAMS makes a pretty good "dog food sauce". I had to use it to get my hound mix to eat when he first came home. Between being neutered and introduced to a new home in one day, he was pretty stressed. I have had luck with the bacon flavor, the person at the pet store said it was the most fragrant. Again, you will have to ween him off the sauce. You can also smear a little sauce on a raw hide bone for an irresistible chew treat,

I'm having the same problem with a Pekingese mix that we just adopted. She doesn't eat her dry food for anything unless I mix in human food. I bought her Purina ONE since it's top ingredients are chicken and rice, but she still isn't eating it. My two other pit bulls did have this problem, but that was fixed with canned dog food. I'll try the starvation diet for her, and see what comes of it.

get out your dog food's nutritional info, it's time to give it a test! Start with 100 and go down the list

1) For every listing of "by-product", subtract 10 points

2) For every non-specific animal source ("meat" or "poultry", meat meal or fat) reference, subtract 10 points

3) If the food contains BHA, BHT, or ethoxyquin, subtract 10 points

4) For every grain "mill run" or non-specific grain source, subtract 5 points

5) If the same grain ingredient is used 2 or more times in the first five ingredients (i.e. "ground brown rice", "brewer's rice", "rice flour" are all the same grain), subtract 5 points

6) If the protein sources are not meat meal and there are less than 2 meats in the top 3 ingredients, subtract 3 points

7) If it contains any artificial colorants, subtract 3 points

8 ) If it contains ground corn or whole grain corn, subtract 3points

9) If corn is listed in the top 5 ingredients, subtract 2 more points

10) If the food contains any animal fat other than fish oil, subtract 2 points

11) If lamb is the only animal protein source (unless your dog is allergic to other protein sources), subtract 2 points

12) If it contains soy or soybeans, subtract 2 points

13) If it contains wheat (unless you know that your dog isn't allergic to wheat), subtract 2 points

14) If it contains beef (unless you know that your dog isn't allergic to beef), subtract 1 point

15) If it contains salt, subtract 1 point

Extra Credit:

1) If any of the meat sources are organic, add 5 points

2) If the food is endorsed by any major breed group or
nutritionist, add 5 points

3) If the food is baked not extruded, add 5 points

4) If the food contains probiotics, add 3 points

5) If the food contains fruit, add 3 points

6) If the food contains vegetables (NOT corn or other grains), add 3 points

7) If the animal sources are hormone-free and antibiotic-free, add 2 points

8 ) If the food contains barley, add 2 points

9) If the food contains flax seed oil (not just the seeds), add 2 points

10) If the food contains oats or oatmeal, add 1 point

11) If the food contains sunflower oil, add 1 point

12) For every different specific animal protein source (other than
the first one; count "chicken" and "chicken meal" as only one protein source, but "chicken" and "beef" [etc.]as 2 different sources), add 1 point

13) If it contains glucosamine and chondroitin, add 1 point

14) If the vegetables have been tested for pesticides and are pesticide-free, add 1 point

Your dog might not like dry food, but if you use my advice I garuntee that it will within a week.
First, fill its bowl halfway with dry food. Then put canned food on top. Everyday for a week do the same but use a little less dog food each time. Then, after a week just put one spoon full of the canned on the dry. The next day put no canned and, assuming the dog had eaten the food each day, he will eat the plain dry food.

My dog "Tetley" is an Airedale Terrier. She has been quite finicky on what dog food she was eating. When I tried a new one she would eat the 1st couple of days worth then needed fasting to get her to keep eating the brand. I finally stooped to a cheap brand and I tried Ol Roy, she loves it. Let your own dog tell you if she likes it or not. Ol Roy is even approved by the aafca. In fact today we both had Old Roy for lunch. It's not as tasty as peanut butter on toast but in a pinch its not bad. Try it with some red wine, I did. My dog had water with hers.

I feed my award winnig LAB Ol' Roy.  It has NO by products and has high quality protien.   Some foolish dog owners figure if it cost more it must me good.  Mars Corp, the same people who produce Pedigree produce Ol' Roy.

See the same thing is going on with my dog write now. i've been suggested many of the things listed too. if your dog continues not to eat you should go and check with your vet because chances are that your dog might have worms which are causing it to lose his appitite. or it might be because of stress. expecially if its in the summer. so just go check with your vet he/she will tell you exactly what to do. :]

I was feeding my dog nothing but Pedigree canned food before, but I realized by feeding her wet food, she gets the runs.  Soooo....after being tired of always cleaning up lots of poop, I've decided to buy dry food.  Dry food is better because it cleans the teeth, and they eat less and poop less, and the poop stink less, lol.

I buy my dog Canidae.  It's very high quality dog food, and it has no corn, wheat, soy, by-products (nastiest ingredient ever), and no BHA, BHD, and Exq.  Those can be deadly in the long run.  Canidae is about the same price as any commercial dog food.  I would feed my dog Wellness, but it's a little more expensive.  I have to agree Innova Evo is probably best since almost 50% of it is meat protein, but it's expensive.  I might try it though since she likes the treats.

Anyway, feed your dog nothing but dog food.  You can leave the food for 20 for your doggie to eat.  If it doesn't eat it, take it away.  Do it repeatedly and they'll realize that that is the only food they're gonna eat.  Animals aren't like humans.  They won't starve themselves to death because of the food.  If they're hungry, you bet they'll eat it, and they'll get used to it and keep eating it.  Don't be discouraged if your dog won't eat for a day or two.

I agree that ol'royand alpo are both cheap dog food's to feed your dog.  And pitbulls are, by the way, very smart and trainable if you love them like any other pet.  Any dog can be mean if raised to do so.  Pit bulls just have a talent for fighting when bred to do so.  Thanks for your time.

try royal canin.
we only use science diet for my cat and lab, both growing up and as adults. however, after our dog got to about 15mths. she refused to eat any SD. she ate it, but not like before with the SD large breed puppy food. So we actually purchased the top four leading brands just to see if we could find a food she would eat. we put all the bowls down at the same time, and in the same type bowls, and the lab royal canin won hands down. she ate the SD first, then almost finished the eku!, but found the RC and finished it off. So we replenished the bowls again, to make sure, and she only ate the royal canin.
what to expect.
i love SD and will always be a fan as the cat is still on it and SD is the only one to make food of "special" kinds for medical reasons. However, the only real difference is her energy and food digestion. The stool is rather interesting so be aware, but she does digest less frequently.  The food does digest better and has less discharge, but the main difference is the energy she gained. we live on a river with a strong current that she swims against, and she went from swimming after her tennis ball non-stop for about one hr on SD to as much as three hrs after one entire 40 or 50lb bag of RC. WOW. i mean its got to be good for the dog right, but now we are rather tired because of all the new found energy that requires us to throw longer.
again, we do feel that SD is the best dry food for any dog/cat period, but if your dog/cat wont eat the SD, you should try the superlative RC.

I hate to break it to many dog owners but the majority of reputible breeders rarely use specialty foods since they don't really work any better than your massed produce foods & many cause loose stools.

Also be carefull about the whole by-product myth.  It's sounds worse than it really is.

Look for "meal" as in chicken or beef meal instead of just chicken or beef...

Finally, it's all about what food works for your dog.  Some dogs look great on Alpo and others don't.

This is how i made my dog eat dry dog food. First I gave him a few of the dry dog food as a treat. I did this for about a few days. Then I mix his dinner with half dry food and half canned food. My dog was eating around the wet food and leaving the dry so, I also mixed in some table leftovers for flavor. After a few days I would reduce the wet food and replace it with the dry. You must keep in mind that dogs should have a wider diet then just wet and dry food. They should be feed veggies too. Check around the net to find safe veggies that your dog can eat.

For the reviewer ‘ole roy’– please be more specific and use clarification on why you feel this way. For an opinion to have weight and substance, facts must accompany it.

For the reviewer ‘macys_momma' – please do a research on dog foods in comparison and you will find Ol Roy being as good as most of your other name brands as for ingredients.

For the reviewer Whoever – again, is this your opinion or do you have factual info that says these other brand you call out are better? And if so, please enlighten us.

For everyone else... I have 3 Rottweilers and 3 (English) Mastiffs.  Two of my male Rotties are both at 22 months of age and are around 165lbs.  My female Rott is about 15months and is at 130lbs.  Anyone who knows Rotts knows that is a bit large for the breed.  My male Mastiffs is 2yrs and weighs in at 205 while the 2 females are both around 175 and are also 2yrs of age.

Growing up, the large breeds we had were a Doberman and later we had a German Sheppard.  We always had small dogs such as Poms, Yorkies, Schnauzers, Mini Dobes, Boston Terriers and Schnauzers.  To date my parents have a Boxer and still have the German Sheppard (the Shep is about 13yrs old now) and ALL were raised up on Ol Roy.

I feed my canines a mixture of Ol Roy High Performance and Lamb & Rice dry food. Each dog gets a can of the ‘smell good’ canned food once a week.  Never have ANY of our dogs had any medical conditions or any symptoms of obesity or vitamin deficiency.  None of out animals has ever had Rickets or any other skeletal condition due to poor or mal-nutritional diet.  My canines have also tested negative for PRA and have passed OFA and OFEL.

Based on the canines I have had growing up and those I currently do have, I have no issue with Ol Roy what-so-ever.  My canines do come from quality lines with champs in the linage that can be tracked by the SN in the pedigree and traced back.  So please, do YOUR OWN homework and feed your pet what YOU feel is safe and quality.

I was just reading some of the things people had to write on here, and let me tell you, people are ignorant. First off, how immature can someone be to come on a site like this and write about "Anal Scraping"? Seriously, grow up. And secondly to the ass that wrote that pitbulls should die anyway. How dare you say such a thing? Pitbulls are animals too and deserve love and respect. God created each of us equally so who are you to say something like that. That would be like me telling you that your "race" whether it's white, black, mexican or whatever, should die young..(meaning, your children) I've been around pitbulls all my life and there is nothing violent about them....unless of course, the owner is moronic enough to raise them to be. They have a bad rap and it's not their fault. People like you don't deserve to have companionship. You should be left alone to rot. Fair enough? Maybe next time, consider the other readers before you write something like that.

He is in great shape (other than being blind from cataracts).  His liver, kidneys and other internal organs test fine on his blood work and ultrasounds.  This dog goes up down a flight of stairs (blind, mind you!) SEVERAL times a day.

As far a this pet owner is concerned, Ol' Roy rocks!

Ol roy is a good food, it is on the cheeper side, but my dogs are really picky and they really eat it... and it has bigger kibble so it is better for my large breed dogs...  the bigger kibble is better for large dogs because they actually have to chew it and an it aids in cleaning their teeth....

I feed a combination of Dura Life and OL Roy, they vary in protein from 21% to 28%.  When my dogs wont eat anything else they will eat one of these...

It probably isn't what you're feeding your dog, it's most likely the fact that you've been feeding it at the table. If you feed it the good stuff off the table, your dog's probably not going to like any dog food you give him. Also the food from the table is unhealthy for dogs.

I have a St. Bernard who is about 7. He has had a rough year, as my family moved and he had to stay with a friend. I found out the family he was staying with wasn't taking care of him or feeding him properly. When I found this out I went and picked him up. I brought him to my other friend's house since I can't have dogs where I live. He ate fine the first 2 days after I picked him up, but now for some reason he will not touch his food no matter what. I found he eats people food just fine, but refuses to touch his. What's up with this? Is he sick or not comfortable? He goes to the bathroom (both kinds) regularly and everything looks fine with that. I do not know what to do? Can't really afford a vet right now....? I tried mixing wet food in with his dry food, but he only seems to pick out the wet chunks and leaves the dry food behind. Help!

Ol roy and other grocery brands can be harsh on dog's digestive systems ground corn and animal by products(heads feet intestines) are usually high on the list of ingredients. Nutro Ultra is an affordable alternative sold in pet stores it has all natural ingredients and three sources of protiens that packs in tons of flavor for the dog. make sure to read ingredients when picking out a food.  if it says animal digest, animal by-product, or ground corn, there is something better out there. nutro, innova, and other organic brands are healthy to feed your dogs.

for all you animal lovers, ask your veteranarian to give you an honest answer...and if he does he will tell you that most all dog food minus about six, both dry and canned, are garbage and are not at all good for any pet. If you are feeding your pet store bought dog food, you are unknowingly contributing to him being poisoned. Dog foods today are nutritionally inadequate and are the cause of death and disease of our animals today.  Dog food contains at least six deadly chemicals that have been banned from human consumption because is is known to cause: kidney cancer, bladder cancer, skin cancer stomach cancer, spleen cancer, and luekemia.  Also it causes liver disfunction major organ failure severe allergic reactions, hair loss and chronic diarrhia.. Now I do know you love your pet, so i suspect you will at least consider this, take heed in what I say and do some research.  You owe it to "mans best friend" dont you?

This is in ans to b's suggestion to feed the dog Ole Roy.  And that he feeds it to his dogs.

B - Ole roy is one of the worst foods you can feed your dogs.  It has no nutrition - it is made from leftover parts that other   dog food manufacturers discard -  a customer of mine fed it to their dogs and all of their fur fell out. Another lost their dog to malnutrition even tho it ate and ate and ate the stuff. The like it because it is laden with fat content - not nutrition.  The run to it because their bodies are being denied the proper nutrition and they are malnourised -please check with your vet -  I'm sure the vet will tell you pretty much the same thing.
