I bred my dachshunds for the first time. The pups are 4 weeks old. One pup's hair is thicker and a little longer, neither parents are long haired but I'm wonder if this pup might be.  What is the time frame of their hair growth?

I am only 12 years old and I have two miniature dachshunds, one boy and one girl. I can not answer your question, but I would want you to answer mine if you can. My question is how many puppies do they usually have when it's time?

You should not be allowed to breed dogs. It is unlikely that a wirehair was involved in anyway. Long hair is a recessive trait in dachshunds. Here let me make it easy if two people with blue eyes (recessive trait) mate their baby will have blue eyes as it takes to recessive alleles. If two brown eyed people mate they may have a blue eyed child as they could have one allele for blue eyes and one for brown eyes. You only see the parents. So if the long haired trait is represented as a little s and the smooth their is a big S you can have. SS that means the dog has short hair and doesn't carry for long hair. Ss the dog carries for long but has short hair. ss the dog has long hair.So your dogs were Ss and Ss some of your pups may be SS or Ss and one of your pups is definitely ss. Learn about genetics before you breed. I doubt you had their hips and spines checked before you bred shame on you!!!
