My JR also suffers from skin irritations.  I have found him to be very allergic to most things & must keep him on a strict diet of "California Natural" dog food, and only that.  When he is given any other food, he will begin scratching so severely that his skin will be raw, all fur gone.  It requires an antibiotic ointment to heal and allergy medication to suppress the itching, until his skin heals.

You can also try giving your Jack Omega-3 fish oils. I don't know where you are but I go to the local Trader Joe's and get them there. They can help with skin irritations. I had a dog with horrible allergies and he chewed his fur off his back legs and abdomen. The vet gave him cortisone and steroid injections but they did not help as much as the fish oils did. The cortisone and the steroids especially are not good especially over a prolonged period of time.

My JRT also has skin problems, he keeps scratching like a maniac until he breaks the skin on the back of his ears and armpits. Laurie: only with the "California Natural" did you control your JRT skin condition? Erin: did you controlled yours with the omega-3 oils or it is a combination or different medications? I need help!!!!!!!!!!!!
