When wiring an L6-30P device which wire should go where?  The cable has green, black and white conductors.

Black to brass terminal
white to silver terminal
green to green terminal

green goes to ground, other 2 don't matter,
they are both hot in north america.

in 240v land black goes to brass (hot)
white goes to neutral, green goes to ground

the green conductor connects to ground (G), the black and white conductors are the hots, one will go to the (X) terminal, the other one will go to the (Y) terminal.
