I have a female beagle/Shepherd mix who is approximately six years old. For several years we have been dealing with fevers of unknown origin ranging from 104 to 106 degrees and lasting approximately 24 hours each time. She has had 7 in the past two and one half years. Biskit has had bloodwork several times which shows nothing abnormal, x-rays and an ultrasound which were also normal. On two occasions in the past year, sterile urine from her bladder showed bacteria and she was on antibiotics for 4 weeks the first time and 6 weeks this past spring. 10 days after being off the six week course in the spring she had the fever again which subsided in 18 hours with just an aspirin. This past weekend after two weeks of her stools being softer than normal, she would not eat, has diarrhea with mucus and vomited large amounts of yellow mucus. She also within 24 hours had a 103 temp and bloody projectile diarrhea. Bloodwork again was normal. My vet has had her on metronidazole and sulfasalazine for five days now and Panacur in case of worms for three days now. She is energetic, eating, drinking and her temp is normal but her stools are soft and go from being reddish brown and shiny to a very light yellow and "gloppy" sometimes within the same bowel movement. My vet and I are at a loss and I am wondering if you might have any insight into this otherwise wonderful dog? She has her normal vaccines, plus lepto and lyme vaccines. We live in northeastern Pennsylvania. I would appreciate any help you could offer.
