The 'cjpeg' program as well as the 'djpeg' program to create vs. decompress jpeg format files into another image format is part of the well known libjpeg library code.

I think there exist some patched Versions of this library all over the internet, but the most original will be found at "Independent JPEG Group":

http://www.ijg.org/

The file

http://www.ijg.org/files/jpegsrc.v6b.tar.gz

contains the source code that will smoothly install to your system with a simple "./configure --prefix=/X/Y/Z; make" call.

Maybe you should also cross check "--enable-shared" as a configure option for your system.
