Yes she is in heat. You should notice a swelled vulva too. Being in heat means she will become fertile soon for a few days so you need to keep your female away from ALL males completely. Males from miles around will come to breed her and she will be as desperate to breed as they are so she has to be kept inside at all times. Once she goes out of heat she will not breed again until her next heat. You can't put a time frame on a heat in a dog. It can last from a few days to a month. Just wait and see how long she is in heat this time then she should follow that pattern in the future heats for the most part. The space between heats also varys greatly. 6-10 months. Sometimes more sometimes less. I would strongly advise getting her sprayed because each of her heats will become a terror for you!

I have a seven month old female Bichon Frise and a female Mastiff.  The Mastiff had explosive diarhhea with vomiting for three days and I was told she ate something toxic.  We treated this and in 3 days she was better.  Now the Bichon exhibits the same behavior, yet at a smaller scale, but her bleeding looks as if it is her first heat? How can you tell? Does this happen every month?  What can I do for the discomfort, if any?  Thanks

My dog is pregnant and i think she is going to give birth anytime soon. My problem here is she is bleeding heavily now.  The blood is very dark in color. Not the usual red color. More to black color.  Can you help? Is it serious?

It's "spayed", and yes - population control with dogs is essential.
