A computer virus is a program that modifies another program to include a (possibly modified) version of itself.

A biological virus infects a (prokaryotic or eukaryotic) cell by injecting its own DNA into the cell.  The injected DNA "hijacks" the infected cell's replication mechanism, and results in replication of the viral DNA.  After many viral copies are created, the cell wall lyses (dissolves) and the new virus copies emerge and infect yet other cells.
