I have a female great dane, she is 1 year old and is in heat and definately at the time of the cycle where male dogs are very interested. I also have a male bull terrior who was chained up away from her, by the way she is locked in a pen also but today the male dog got off his collar and chewed through the wire ( hard to believe) and when I saw him he was going through the motions. When I yelled at him he stopped straight away. I want to know if may be I was lucky enough to get him before he could go all the way or if maybe they will mate a few times. I'm not sure how long he was in the pen but it could have been a few hours. I am hoping he just got in. I was told that dogs get knotted when they mate but does this happen every time?

My dog is in heat for the first time, and I wondered if anyone knew how long it will last, and how long until she is in heat again?

the rule that I learned about dogs in heat is one week going in, one week in and one week going out, for a total of approximately three weeks of "being in heat".

you will have more male dogs hanging around your place then you realised even exsited.Be sure to very very well secure her enclosure as these guys are very agile and sneaky,and can squeeze under fences 3" off the ground

There are two stages of heat. Going into heat and in heat. She may be going into heat for just a few days or over three weeks. The time she will allow breeding can range from 1-21 days so you just have to wait and let her give you her timing! 3 weeks is about the average,though, as lvstigers pointed out. The time between heats has an average of 6 months but can range from 4-12 months! Your dog should stick to one pattern once you find it. The world of breeding is very complicated so good luck to you! If your dog gets pregnant be sure to be prepared. There are alot of pros and cons to pregnant dogs and whelping. consider these carefully before breeding!

the leason that i'velearned, your doggie companion or any other animal for that matter,should be treated in the way we all would like to be treated. I enjoy my chi. she's like a daughter to me., and i wouldn't trade her for the world.

Dogs usually to into heat,on the average, twice a year. Being in heat will last about 3 weeks total.

My dog is having her second heat now. Her first was in Feburary. She had no pups from the first heat. This is my first time with this so my question is, Do the dogs have to get "stuck" to end up pregnant? My dogs which are rotts are all over the yard for the past 4 days but they are not getting stuck. She will slide off of him but then 1 time he was standing in one place froze for about 5 mins. So can anyone answer this for me??

Hi, my dog is in heat for the first time. For the first week she was bleeding. Then for about 3-5 days she has stopped bleeding. I noticed today when I took her out to go potty she was trying to pee and it was blood. Is it normal for dogs to bleed more than once??

I had my six month old cocker given a hormone shot to prevent her first heat. The vet told me she would give her the shots every six months for the first three heats with one gap in between.

re dog on heat for the first time. Usually a good measure is the age of the dog when she first comes on heat, eg.if she is six months old, then chances are she'll come on heat every six months.

Is anything that can be given to a dog in heat? Medication wise to calm her down? We have a Cocker Spaniel and are waiting till she turns 3 yrs old to breed, but I feel for her and wish I could give her something to calm her down her durning this time (in heat)

Hi I have a question if I might . I have a Yorke-poo F. what is there any way to tell what part of her cycle she is on or how much longer until goes into her heat ? I asked her but she just will not tell me a thing . And is it better for the girl to go to the boys home to mate or the boy to come to the girl's home ? As you can tell this is my first attempt in trying . But I hear spring time is a good time to try is that also true ?

most of the time the dogs have to "TIE" to get pregnant which is getting stuck together but there is a slim chance your dog can get pregnant without a tie.

I was wondering how you can tell if your dog is expecting. My pittbull and chi got together but was not stuck together for a great time. She would be do 12/28/05 and I can't tell if she is expecting. Please help

First, I am not interested in breeding my dog. She just started bleeding and I want to know how many days she will continue to bleed. I know that they are in heat at least 3 weeks but do the bleed for this whole time?

I have a Datson and she has come in heat for the first time. I know I don't want her to have pups, bu my Vet said he wanted her to go into heat before she fix her. My question is how long will she stay in heat? And how long does there cycle usually last?

My 2 year old chihuahua has been in heat probably 9 days now... we have decided to breed her and we put the male dog in with her the first day we noticed she was in heat..exactly one week ago!!! This is now about the ninth day in heat...and she has now started letting the male mound and hump her...she actually wont'shim to..lol!!! But every time he mounds and humps her...he only stays on her maybe 10 seconds..and then he gets off!!! Will he continue to do this, or will they finally get tied up? My dog is in heat for the first time too (she's 8.5 months old). So how soon can I let her play with her best friend who is an in-tact 10 month old male? Will they ever be able to play again unsupervised now that she's been through one heat?

I have a Maltese and she is only 7 1/2 months. She just started going into heat and bleeding yesterday. My vet said it is unusally young for a Maltese. I was just wondering how long this bleeding is going to last because I am going out of town and she is staying with a friend for two nights. I would not want my friend to have to put up with the diaper. HELP!
