I have a 1991 pontiac sunbird with a 2 liter 4 cylinder. I had more weight in it than normal on a warm day and noticed the temp. gauge was tached out max. I limped the ar to a gas station and found that it was 3 quarts low on oil. I also believe it had half a quart than it should have. Am i on the right track when i say it built up too much pressure and either blew the seal on the oil filter or put a gash in the oil pan gasket? It has a new valve cover gaset which was changed from cork to rubber and the head gasket is fine.I should also add it has a few modifications done to it...i.e. K n N air filter, Accel super ignition coil, Accel 8 mm wires, bosch platinum 4 spark plugs, Accel distributer cap and rotor.
