I am an American woman marrying an Algerian man.  My question is, I am to ask my husband for "mahr".  I have found lots of information about mahr, but I have absolutely no idea what or how much to ask for.  Are we talking $10 or $10,000?

Hi,

Mahr is usually agreed upon by the parents or the person responsible for the woman before her wedding, and the groom himslef or usually his father or person of his choice. it does not have to be of any specific amount, it has to be just a symbol of how much the woman is valued, it can be a simple silver ring, or like you said 10 thousand dollars. as I mentioned its very symbolic and it does not have to be a burden on the groom or his family, it is a way to thank your parents for allowing you to marry the groom

It is a kind of gift that the bride would suggest, not a price. ;)

I know that you didnt mean that, but I had to correct it so that others wouldnt take it the wrong way...

Mahr Fatimi = 1.5309 kilogram of silver (1530.9 g) (= £ 153.09 for July 2004)

First of all, it is not  Islam man but a Muslim man.
second of all, what does it mean an American woman ????
an American Woman could be Muslim ,could be Christian ,could be Jew and could be stupid like you lol

So Yes. an American woman ,can Marry an American  Muslim man.
