I have an 89 VW Jetta GL 4cyl 8v. Just had a used transmission installed and the mechanic replaced the motor and transmission mounts. The car now has noticeably more vibration at idle and when the AC is turned on the whole car shakes badly at idle. when I accelerate above 1000 rpm the vibration lessens alot. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. the car runs fine other that the vibration.

The carburator or injecector vacumn switch needs to be checked it probably does not shoot out when the a/c is turned on,thats why the engine shakes.its function is to inrease the running of the engine when the a/c is turned on so as to create a balance from the effect of the a/c compressor on the engine.it is more noticable when the car is an idle mode.u'll also need to increase the rpm level whether a/c or not but with the a/c and no vacumn u wont get the rpm balance level u need because if you increase the rpm when it a/c is off it'll be higher than usual. So u need the vacumn swithch to work for the a/c.
