JPEG PORTABLE STORAGE....I travel, and take a great many digital photographs on Sony MemoryStick PRO.  This PRO format cannot be downloaded to CD by commercial photoshops en route (they don't have the software - yet). I therefore need to carry with me a (cheap?) means to store many hundreds of top quality JPEG images. Can anyone recommend a SMALL, reliable, portable device that is able to store high-quality JPEGS?

Check out some of the new Hard-disk drive products which cater to storing music and photos. Archos has a multi-media unit which can store pictures onto a 20GB HDD. You simply slot in your card into the box, and the interface will download the pictures into the HDD. There are also a couple of look-a-like products..try Nixvue Digital Album or Ranger Portabin
