The basic rules of Figure Skating are to not fall when you jump, land your jumps by doing a full rotation and not over rotating your jumps, when you spin dont move aroung to much, when you do a lunge make sure your foot is oven your head. Pretty much, try your best to not fall. if you do get back up right away!

There is no rules in figure skating. I've done it competitively for about 11-12 years now. First you need to go into a beginners program and you gradually go up and up until you get to the point where you can have individual coaching. Once you are there, it's your choice if you want to do singles, pairs, dance, anything. You can do competitions if you want. But I warn you it's very expensive (skates, gloves, dresses, lessons, ice time,  jackets, the whole thing), also you have to put a lot of time into if you want to do competitions but if you don't you can just have fun with it. I hope I answered your question. There are no basic rules in figure skating.
