...set timing on a 2001 VW JETTA 1.8 Turbo. The...

How do you set timing on a 2001 VW JETTA 1.8 Turbo.  The belt was broken and not sure of the position of motor to timing marks.  The timing is currently out and need to know how to align to marks if the motor turns to tdc twice on the alignment mark or if it only goes to tdc once on the timing mark.  I know there is a compression stroke and a exhaust stroke.
