Why do people what to take guns away from people in the first place, I mean, it is very likely that after you take guns away, gansters will get a lot braver than they are now and they will attack more often if they know that a civilian has no gun to defened himself with.

I think that if people take the guns away from civilian's. it encourages the gangsters and thugs to get more of them. Marijuana is illegal but people still get it plus the gov. couldn't get every gun in the country. I think that parents should just be more responsible and lock up the guns. There is no point in taking the guns away from every body for stupid peoples screw ups.

I'm 14 years old and I've been living in a house with more than 1 gun ever sense i can remember. My guns are always loaded,Always where i can get to them, and I know how to use them. I have never thought of using a gun on myself of anyone around me,if i were to kill myself i wouldn't use a gun because bullets can ricochet and One man was shot in the head with a .22 and he lived for hours and was perfectly fine talking and walking until his brain swelled up and killed him. By that time i would have probably of changed my mind about wanting to  die and it would be to late. Kids should be taught how to use guns and to respect them, not to be scared of them. There would be a lot less crime if the good citizens were given a chance to defend themselves by using guns, instead of everyone saying let the professionals handle it.When in more than 1 case the Supreme Court has ruled that the Police aren't responsible for individuals but the public in general. The police respond to only fraction of the calls reported. If the police aren't going to protect us some one has to, just because guns are made illegal doesn't mean criminals still aren't going to have them because there is no search and seizer in the us the police can't just break down our doors and check through our house just because they think we might have a gun....That's just as illegal. The only thing the guns in my home do is help me sleep better at night, not murder people or harm anyone in any way shape or form... there's no reasonable argument Pro gun control so just lay off....

I don't really know what to think about gun control, I believe that guns should be kept only for the military instead of people that can use them to harm others.  I also believe that people should be able to defend themselves, cause I know that by restricting on who owns a gun that someone that will use it for harm can still get his/her hands on it.  So its like a catch 22.  I wouldn't want a family to own a gun to protect themselves against intruders but their 6 year old get there hands on it and accidentally shoot his younger brother, killing him. Like I said its a catch 22.  I think everyone should learn how to fight (karate).  I mean if you can kick some but instead of killing someone I think it would be better wouldn't you?  I mean I don't know what to think really.

Well i think that shooting a gun for fun is nuts.  OOOO yay i hit the target o goody. OOO yay i did it again. Or if u like hunting,  OOO yay i killed a big animal, a poor helpless animal.  Dont think im a wimp cuz im not. but really fight a bear without a gun id like to see that.  I wonder who would win.  And the whole second amendment thing was garbage.  It was made so that the white men could keep control over thier slaves by threats, protect themselves from the british. If u didnt know the british attacked us.  yeah its true. so if we were in a war in this country right now....  heck ya ide want a gun. also they didnt have gerocery stores so they had to get thier own meat. MEAT  M-E-A-T you eat that. I doubt that most hunters eat whatever they kill.  Which i thnk is kinda gross. they sell the best meat in stores. I think that if u do hunt that u should eat the meat atleast. which sounds wierd if u think about it but they shouldnt leave it there in the forest.  Or mount the head on the wall, that is really messed up.  If u fight the bear and u lose would u want it to mount ur head on the wall in its den?
i think not.  O yeah watch bowling for columbine it rocks,  (.)(.)<------ boobies! yay!

crim·i·nal (krm-nl)
adj.

Of, involving, or having the nature of crime: criminal abuse.
Relating to the administration of penal law.

n.
One that has committed or been legally convicted of a crime

Now if a criminal is willing to break the law by murdering someone do you really think they will care if there is a law against owning guns?  So Shope the next some some guy walks into your house high on angle dust with a .38 special in his hand and wanting to steal your tv you go ahead and try to kick him with your karate.  Remember this though you always have to be prepaired to be able to attack someone at the farthest distance in your house.  So if he is on the other side of a hall good luck trying to kick him...  Gun control is just another way of worthless dumbass people always blaming their problems on someone or something else.  It the guns fault!  It can't be my fault for having a loaded gun where my child can reach it when the child doesn't understand how to use the gun correctly and safely.

Rebel and Myself are correct you take away the good honest peoples defense and thugs are just gonna feel even better about coming into your home... Oh and Jen learn to read he never called people that own guns gangsters.

Just like Megi I have lived in a house with a gun right next to ammo for a very long time, but my parents took the time to teach me about it.  They let me play with it (unloaded) until I was content.  Told me a showed me how it works, how it's loaded, how itss cocked, and how it's fired.  I was also shown how to unload it.  I was also told to never touch it without their say so.  I never touched the gun in my life after that day.  I didn't care about it.  I got to play with it and look at it and had my moment of fun and then it was just a heavy piece of metal that I couldn't hold all that well anyway.  I am now much older and own about 13 guns that are my own.  I have never had a single problem with any of them.  I fired them all the time and enjoy shooting them.  Oh yes GamerDemon shooting a rifle at a target 100 - 1000 yards away and hitting it dead on is quite fun and not an easy task to do.  It takes a lot of skill to be able to fire a gun at a small target a long way away.  I do not agree with hunting large game just for the sport though.  Also id say 90% of hunters do eat what they shoot even if they are just shooting the animal for sport.  If it's because you have to have it for food it's one thing.  If it's because you just want to shoot it so ya can tell you buddy you shot it... well thats just dumb.  Shooting small varment can be fun at times I have found and keeps the population of them undercontrol in a safer manner than poisons or whatever ya wanna do to kill them off.  Also you shouldn't believe every stupid thing you hear come out of michael moore's fat mouth.  The second amendment was made so that we would have militia to fight against anyone that decided they may want to take over a country that is weak and just being born.  Such as... oh the british.  Then again what the hell do I think I am gonna do to a person that is obviously an immature ignorant child that has been brainwashed by the retarded liberals around him.

Oh by the way Shaveit please go find a loaded gun and take yourself out of the gene pool.

I as a teenager understand the idea of people thinking that Gun control was just some way so that they can keep control of their slaves or provide a way of protection for your families or for yourself. But gun control is very important if it was not put in affect how could you feel safe walking around knowing that someone could come and shoot you for all your money and you couldnt do nothing to stop them.
How cold you feel safe in your house knowing there are guns every where and maybe a little neice, nephew, cousin, or even a friend of theirs is in the house and finds those guns?
Having had many of my very close friends die from guns and even family members I am happy that gun control is in effect. Maybe one day the world will change and when my children go out into the world there will not be so much death and hatred that will be channeled with guns.

when it comes to gun control, I'm right in the middle.  Sadly, there really isn't an answer for the issue that will please everyone.  beings that my dad's a cop and its a field I'm interested in, he has shown me many pictures of teens and young children who have blown their head off or other body part with a handgun.  Those are the weapons I'm am starting to oppose.  cuz whats the purpose of a handgun ?...though it is important to protect your family, handguns are meant to kill only one thing...HUMANS.  You don't go hunting rabbits or bears with a handgun.  But because having the right to bear arms is important, what really needs to end are the production of VERY CHEAP handguns that criminals can easily get there hands on.  and one more thing.  Its strange to think that we are one of the only countries that actually hunts on a full stomach...think about that...

The truth is, criminals/enemies will always have guns (or any weapons that they can get their hands on), so why is it that our decent people should not be equppied with the same resources to be able to defend themselves? Also, the right to bear arms is a very important freedom that helps to prevent tyranny of government. The people of a country should be able to rise against their government if it is unjust and the disarming of a people is taking away their power to fight back. Hitler disarmed his people and look what happened there- a prime example. We've been lucky for a while, but someday we may eventually end up with war going on right in our country, with invaders in our homes and we deserve to have the power of defense. However, I strongly agree that people of all ages who live in a house with guns need to be educated about them (not be ignorant of them). I do agree with backround checks and psychological exams being required for ownership of firearms, but a person with an intent to harm doesn't need permission or encouragement to get the job done. If people want to murder, it's an intent that cannot be stopped because THEY are the weapon, not the gun.

I agree that people should be able to have guns. The problem as previously stated, with having gun control is that someone who intends to murder someone will not give up guns they already have. They also wont mind breaking a few minor laws to get the gun so they can murder. However, if there is no gun control, maybe that person who they are going to murder can at least defend themselves. I'm afraid karate simply can't stand up to a .45.

I know the liberals have brainwashed you with your "guns are made for one reason - to kill other people." but they are just annoying liberals who should go hug a tree or two. Guns have been a part of the United States since before it's beginning of a country. If we did not have militias, we would've lost the war with Britain. People say that was a long time ago but it was only a bit over 2 centuries. Society has changed since then, in my opinion for the worse. The main problem is that families simply don't care about their children as much. No one has respect for each other.

Oh and GamerDemon,

It the guns fault!  It can't be my fault for having a loaded gun where my child can reach it when the child doesn't understand how to use the gun correctly and safely.
                 -DevilDog

hey guy are u on crack or something?

You do realize he was making fun of the people who can't take the blame for not raising their kids good and having them shoot themselves, don't you?

I agree with that. People never want to actually say, "It was my fault." They have to blame it on someone else

Pro Gun Control (reasons y guns should only be owned by police officers and stuff)

-not as many people die b/c of guns
-guns are dangerous (well, duh)
-people who keep guns at home have a 72% greater chance of being killed by firearms and are 3.4 times more likely to commit suicide
-in 2000, one kid was killed by a gun every 3 hours; 3042 deaths in all that year

i hope this helps you!

i beleive that gun control laws are only here to protect us, not hinderus. I believe in owning guns for protection and gaming purposes. But what’s the difference between someone getting a gun right after they purchase it… or waiting 48 hours to do a background check on them to make sure that they wont go on a killing spree. Most people with bad intentions would probably not go to gun shops to purchase guns.. but the ones who do WILL be stopped. Some people think that gun control laws are here to take guns away from us or prevent us from our rights, but i beleive that they are only here to help...

hey GamerDemon, I shoot guns in competition and i hunt. and the truth is that most people who hunt, hunt for sport but they also eat what they shoot.  and you were saying OOOO yay i hit the target and all that $h!+, well why dont you try 600 yards. yeah it's hard but it's fun. I shoot an AR-15 in a national match at Camp Perry military base, and the reason i do it is because it's fun. and the reason it's fun is because it's challenging. and its not as easy as you think, at 600 yards you have more to deal with than just the distance. you have the wind that changes rapidly which could throw your shot way off. so before you talk $h!+ why dont you get the other side of the story first

Hello, I'm a French student and it's clear that we are really amazed by your need to bear an arm... I wanted to answer to the other french person who said that France was a country where you were not afraid to be shot... That's true but other arms are present. European people are under the influence of cliché. For most of us, America is bad in all fields! America is the country we don't want to look like... I find it stupid. Moreover, violence is developping in our country and you can get a gun by various illegal ways! America is not so bad... !!! My own reflexion is: Is the 2nd amendment really clear ??? If pro gun control groups exist, there's probably a problem with the topic of arms in the USA...Why continuing with that conflict? ...

Look, guns have been here for centuries, and will continue for centuries more. That's just part of life. Technology will evolve the gun and will become more high tech as they have throughout time.
There will always be pro's and con's to guns. It's just the side you view as the side you see best fit. PRO- Someone is trying to attack you (with attempt of serious bodily injury). CON- Someone kills a random person walking down the street.
Personally, I do not believe guns are bad. It is the carrier of the gun that makes it good or bad. Criminal background checks are mandatory for holding a gun, so, why would a future criminal apply for a gun if their record would cause them not to? They are going to wait until after they recieve their gun to participate in criminal activity.

The first step to controlling a populace is disarming a populace. Last I checked, the Founding Fathers had this thing called 'Freedom' in their minds when they drafted the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. The right to defend yourself is just that, a right. A right given by your very existence, by God if you will.

To the French person: We all want to live in peace. Some of us just realize that peace is not the innate state things, at times you have to fight to bring peace. Sun Tzu and the other Chinese scholars of his time explain this very well in The Art of War. Always be prepared for war, to do otherwise invites your peace as a slave.

To the person wanting arguments for Pro-Gun Control... try these on your teacher.
1) Gun Control allows a government to do whatever they wish with a populace, because the people are unable to fight back even if they wish to.
2) Gun Control allows more predators to have their way with good, honest people, so the government is then in turn able to pass more restrictive laws in "help" the people.
3) Gun Control allows for the creation of an elite class, those without the means to do violence and those with the means to do violence, whom are controlled by our beloved bureaucrats and "servants" in power.

Think on this stuff, folks. There isn't as much of a gray area as some of you think. Think about what you'd do today if the government decided to seize your property, or wrongfully arrested a loved one. Think about the Checks and Balances that our government was built on, and know that the final check is the peoples' ability to revolt. Read up on what our Founding Fathers' design was, and read the ideologies and philosophies written thousands of years before that inspired those that wrote our basic laws today. Don't let ignorance, passiveness and apathy enslave you.

First of all I would like to say how impressed I am that I have heard many of you say that education about firearms is important.  I also grew up in a home with firearms in it.  I knew better than to grab a gun and point it at a friend.  I also know how uneducated people act around firearms.   During my senior year in high school I brought a couple of friends over to my house during lunch.  They noticed a new rifle on my wall.  I had just bought the rifle a week before this happened.  They asked if they could see it, so I took it off the wall, checked the chamber to see again if it was loaded.  Upon seeing that it wasn’t loaded (which it never is) I handed the weapon to the person.  They looked at it for a while then pointed it mockingly at the other person.  I immediately reacted to the situation by snatching the rifle from the persons hands and set it back onto the wall mount.  Later as we left to go back to school the person I snatched the rifle from asked if they could drive my car back to school.  Again being the responsible one, I said no because the car was under my parents name, and I didn’t want them to be responsible for anyone else’s mistakes at the wheel but mine.  As I got home from school that day, there was a state trooper car parked in my driveway.  The policeman told me that I was to be arrested for menacing.  Apparently the person I had snatched the gun from had told the police that I had pointed the gun at them.  It took a year in court, for the charges to be dropped, and I found out that the person was mad because I wouldn’t let them drive my car and made up the story to get me in trouble.  As for gun laws themselves.  The govt.  wishes to limit the sales to military, law enforcement, and bodyguards.  I would like to point out that this sounds great to them, because they have marines stationed right at the white house, and all of them have private bodyguards.  How many regular citizens have enough money to pay for bodyguards.  Plus you have to think about who commits violent crimes with guns.  Does a person that robs a store go out and legally purchase a firearm?  No because they don’t want that weapon linked to them.  As for the “kids that bring guns to school”  thing.  Well if an angry and obviously disturbed teen can’t bring a gun to school, don’t you think that they could find a different way to vent their anger?  Like find a chemistry book, and make a small, or for that matter a large bomb and set it off during lunch?  I mean come on they are mentally screwed in the first place, what do they care how they get their results.  Finally I don’t mean to knock any of you who are anti-gun, but from what I’ve seen from this message board is that you just don’t like guns because you haven’t been around them.  You’ve formed your opinion about guns from things that you have heard.   Sure there have been accidents with firearms, but there are a lot of fatal accidents with a lot of products that we buy today.  Take cars for instance.  A drunk driver hits another car on the road.  Was his car at fault or was he?  Should we regulate what cars people can now buy because of this jerk?  Should we now regulate the sale of alcohol?  As for my personal beliefs I do believe that people have the right to own firearms, and that the government has no right to tell me, or anyone otherwise.  Do I hunt?  No, I don’t even like to take the lives of animals, if I need to eat a steak or something I go to applebee’s or burger king.  Do I target shoot?  I have a couple times.  But not in the past three years.  Do I own guns?  Yes about 20 in all so far.  The most action my guns see is when I take them off the wall, or out of the (locked) gun cabinet, and clean them.  I believe that everyone should be taught to respect guns, but the problem with that is that we need responsible parents.  Something that America lacks these days.  From what I have seen here, and I stress this point, if you look at the message boards history the people that are anti-gun seem to be more hostile with their messages than the people that are pro-gun.  Check that out.  They are one step away from calling pro-gun people poop heads.

Guns don't kill people, people kill people. Guns only make it easier for the criminal to kill that person. If they really meant to kill someone they only picked a gun cause it was faster, they could have picked a sword, bat, knife, fork, drugs, needles, novelty items, bottles, cigarettes, pencil, fists, and almost anything else. So, when you say that guns are the problem, does that mean all other items are too?

this is important that i have a say in what happens citizens of america. bush sucks   oops sorry no more politics.  i think guns should be owned cuz they help get food and security/safety. those are very important to most americans, the smart ones at least. Also hunting is a great activity that is a good hobby as long as psyco bob doesn't get a gun.  Being 13 my parents dont let me have a gun but i have a glock 18c gas bloback air soft gun that if you get shot in the face with you will be seriously crunked up and it is very important to me so i no what haveing a gun for safety is like and i understand how important it is to have on so i think guns are an important role in an american citizens life so they shouldn't be taken away. So far, i have seen no real argument FOR gun control.  It is all people just saying stuff like "they kill people, they are gangsters, blah blah blah"

It is said right in our constitution that we have the right to bear arms.  to me this means that after proper education that we are able to bear those arms, and i dont mean a civilian owning an AK47 or anything like that, but like me for example, i have a 30/30 rifle that i use for deer hunting, i love deer meat and i love the thrill and adventure of deer hunting, as do most everybody in the state where i live (MN)  hunting is a time that family members come together as well, opening hunting is almost as big, if not bigger than some national holidays in our area.

well being i'm out of time, that is all i have for now

Everyone that said having a gun is okay, or advocated for people to maintain their guns…are a bunch of idiots. And probably the same people that elected President Bush into office. I know what you’re thinking right about now…this guy must be one of those hippy crack pot liberals but guess what I’m not. I see no reason for anyone to have a gun; I mean why on earth would you want something as lethal as a firearm. If you have to stand up for yourself then do it without the deathly advantage. I’ve been held up at gun point before, and you know this gun banning thing that more and more politicians are talking about sounded like a darn good idea at the time and still does, in fact. Keep in mind that my opinion would be the same if I had not been held up. All I’m trying to do is to put your mind into perspective…think a little in a hypothetical situation if you will. Imagine a world where NO guns were allowed…how nice would that be? Really, right?   -Cesar

To everyone out there that is against gun control or for gun control.  Let me tell you a few things:

I will be turning 18 soon and will be leaving for military school and then after four years of that, I will be going into the marines.  I have been shooting small arms rifles since about age 5.  I have half a family of police officers and even though my older brother and my dad arent cops, they both go hunting and we all eat what they shoot.

I am glad that I grew up around sports rifles.  Thats right, I said sports rifles, not weapons.  They are only weapons when used to harm another person.  And to whoever said "OOOOO, shooting a target 100 yards away, fun." It is like any other sport, trying to but a piece of rubber ball into a net wrestling or boxing, your competing against some1 else and what ever sport you do will probably help you in the future.  In this case, me being able to shoot gun exceptionally well will help me in the marines

What it boils down to is this:  The right to own a gun is one of our basic freedoms.  It is not a privlige, and should not even be open for debate.  What we choose to do with that right is a (sad) reflection of who we are as a society.  That is what needs addressed, not our right to bear arms.

Okay, gun control is a big issue, and Coolgamer? What do you mean guns don't kill people??? Does the phrase shot to death ring a bell? And while I think that guns should not all be outlawed, I think that they should be harder to get. I read this article about how this 22 year-old lady was shot to death by a paranoid schizophrenic, who had legally purchased the gun and a license the day before with the seller dud knowing she was legally insane. I mean, how stupid can you get? And did you know that firearms are far less likely to be used in self-defense than in suicides, accidental shootings or homicides involving members of the same household; and the center believes having a handgun escalates the potential for violence. So, basically I'm not for total gun control, but for God's sake make it harder for people to get!

I am right now writing a bill for student congress on guns. I am a teen. My position is somewhat in between though. I believe that people should have the right to own a gun for use to protect their home or hunt. Thusly banning machine guns. Machine guns cannot be used for home protection or hunting only to kill people and how is that in any way good? I think a persons life is very valuable and why should someone else have the right to take that away.

The debate over gun ownership is centered on the second amendment to the constitution, which protects "the right of the people to keep and bear arms." Gun control advocates believe that right does not extend to ownership of military-style firearms that are otherwise known as assault weapons. They point to incidents such as the columbine high school massacre in April 1999, which resulted in the deaths of 14 students (including the two gunmen) and a teacher, in support of banning assault weapons. They also support measures intended to curb gun-related violence, such as mandatory child safety locks, background checks on those wishing to purchase a gun, limits on the number of guns a person can buy and raising the age limit for gun ownership,Gun rights groups, led by the national rifle association, argue that these and other proposals infringe on the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens. They maintain that bans on the sale of certain types of weapons have not proved effective in reducing violent crime, and that proposals for stricter background checks at gun shows are designed to eliminate gun shows themselves. Some gun manufacturers have volunteered support for safety locks, but the NRA has criticized safety locks for placing an undue burden on gun manufacturers without a proven benefit to the public.

Everyday Americans all over the United States are losing and giving up their rights for what they believe are securities. Two examples are the Patriot Act and marriage requirements, the government is taking away our rights and too many people are in favor of it. Now gun control has become an important issue in the 2004 presidential election. While the issue of gun control has slowed in the public concern, it still remains what politicians call a wedge issue as many individuals make voting decisions on this issue alone.
The first major gun control was acted on by congress in 1934, which regulated the sale of fully automatic firearms. Later in 1938 the legislation voted to further restrict the rights by a new federal law which regulated gun sellers to be licensed and prohibited felonies from purchasing guns. The gun ban of 1968 regulated imported guns and expanded gun-dealer licensing requirements, and expanded the list of people not eligible to purchase guns to include minors, the mentally unstable and users of illegal drugs. In 1986 the federal legislation established mandatory penalties for the use of a gun in commission of a federal crime. And finally in 1990, the legislation was passed which banned the manufacturing and importing semi-automatic assault weapons. In 1994, Congress passed what has been known as the most comprehensive effort to control guns. The Brady Bill named after the press aid that was injured in the assination attempt on President Reagan.
As all of you can tell our rights are severely diminishing over time and needs to stop. I believe the Brady Bill has gone too far and needs to stop before guns are outlawed. To support my position I offer the following three areas of analysis. #1. What is the Brady Bill and the regulations in it. #2. Prove how ineffective the Brady Bill has been #3. Show how hunting rifles are as dangerous as assault weapons. Moving onto my first area of analysis the Brady Bill and its regulations.
The main portion of the Brady Bill imposed a five day waiting period for individuals who purchased handguns and requires local law enforcement authorities to conduct back ground checks. Since 1994 the law also prohibits manufactures from firearms with more than one of the following assault weapons features: For rifles, folding stocks which make weapons easy to break down, pistol grips, bayonet mounts, flash suppressors are also prohibited. For pistols magazine outside grips, threaded muzzle, Barrel shroud which, unloaded weight of fifty ounces or more. For shotguns folding stocks are illegal along with pistol grips and detachable magazines and also a fixed magazine capacity greater then five rounds.
The definition of an assault weapon has been tightly drawn. Semi-automatic guns with multiple assault weapons features are banned. There were many concerns that hunting weapons might somehow be affected. The law however has provides specific protection to 670 types of rifles and shotguns. To control the anger of many gun owners over the Brady Bill, guns made before the 1994 ban that are classified as assault weapons have been grandfathered in the law.
#2. Prove how ineffective the Brady Bill has been.
Many individuals in support of the Brady Bill made the bill look very appealing on paper. However the Brady Bill has failed to accomplish the goals it set out to do. Supporters of restricting assault weapons claim that assault weapons are military style guns that were built and designed to kill people and have no legitimate purpose. According to the NRA Lobbyist Cox  the people who support the ban are often times the people who know least about the ban and are not active hunters.
Assault weapons are only used in a very small percentage of murder cases. Statistics from a July 2004 report found that only 2% to 8% of gun related crimes were actually committed by assault weapons. The actual advancement has been so small that perhaps a reliable measurement is hard to take place. The Ban has also been ineffective mainly due to how it classifies guns, the bill uses the name and the model of the gun. However many manufactures of guns change the names or their guns. Many of the features that were banned were changed slightly enough so that the guns would no longer fall in the jurisdiction of the ban.  While guns made before the ban of 1994 were grandfathered in, many of the old models of the banned guns can still be purchased at gun shows and pawn shops.
I have proven that the Brady Bill has not been effective and will never be effective. The bill was a feel good response which imposed unnecessary restrictions for no practical affect. Assault weapons have legitimate uses for military training and general self defense. The most affective way to slow crime is not simply to ban weapons.

#3. Show a better solution to slow crime, and assault weapons vs. hunting rifles.
Issues and controversies on file October 14, 2004 states that supporters to ban assault weapons argue that the characteristics of assault weapons are not inherent to the threat that they pose. The guns semi automatic capabilities, combined with features such as pistol grips and high capacity clips makes them look dangerous and scary to many people. However the most common mistake for people who support the ban is the mix up between semi auto and automatic guns. Assault weapons are defined as belonging to the category of semi-automatic guns, which means that they automatically chamber the next round after firing a shot. Now fully automatic guns like machines guns, fire continuously as long as the trigger is depressed.
The Brady Bill has had large amounts of popularity and support for banning assault weapons, this is primarily because of the way they look, people who are unfamiliar when they see pictures of the guns fear them. Critics have shown that gun control advocates have attempted and succeeded to use fear and confusion to distort the facts. They argue that the attachments covered by the ban look formidable, but do not make guns any more deadly than they would be without many of the features. Often times ordinary hunting rifles can be far deadlier than any assault weapons. According to the Washington post accessed Jan 24, 2005  in a high profile incident a gunmen used a Bushmaster XM-15 semi auto rifle similar to the colt AR-15 but legal under the ban. The gun was used to kill ten people in a series of sniper shootings terrorizing the residents of Washington D.C in 2002.
In conclusion you can plainly see how often times, information can be misheard and misrepresented, and because of that Americans in many cases are willing to give up freedoms at the touch of a button for security. The place where I draw the line is at gun control, first we looked at #1. What is the Brady Bill and the regulations in it. #2. Prove how affective the Brady Bill has been #3. Show a better solution to slow crime, and assault weapons vs. hunting rifles.

OK, for those of you who can't see why all the "tree hugging liberals" are for banning guns with the general public, check it out:

-all guns should contain safety features that prevent them from being fired accidentally or by minors (ever heard of trigger locks?).

-The government has the right to regulate gun purchases to keep them outta the wrong hands.

-Gun users should have to register their weapons with the government, making them more accountable for their actions.

-no sane sportsman shoots deer with an Uzi. We should ban semiautomatic weapons. Why aren't guns that are clearly meant to kill people more restricted?? Beats me...

These are all good reasons to be pro gun control, and all yall who think that us tree huggers are wrong should check out the death rates of people with guns compared to people with moral values!

Even the First Amendment has restrictions. Freedom of Speech doesn't mean you can say anything anywhere. Freedom of Religion doesn't mean you can sacrifice a virgin whenever you want. Using common sense can work with the Second Amendment too.
*   91% of Americans say that there should be at least minor restrictions on gun ownership;
*   57% of Americans say that there should be major restrictions or a ban.

Yea I've been doing research for gun control and when I started I was completely for gun control because of all the gun safety reasons in a house with children. But the more I read the more I realize that, yes, I believe there should be some kind of background check and even a psychological test that can be don periodically, I mean come on we have to go in to renew our license on a huge weapon that I know most people own, and that would be a car so why shouldn't there be some kind of license for carrying firearms.  But I do think that firearms should be allowed to be carried, how many times have people who own guns but are not allowed to carry them into certain places been caught in dangers way by some law breaker who carried a gun into a place were firearms were not allowed. The paper I am currently writing must not be bias, however after doing research I have have many reasons to not have gun control, and I know think very limited gun control should be enforced, just like the control of driving a car to keep people safe, though I know criminals will still get there hands on guns, at least, maybe we will make it harder for them, and by enforcing back ground check, and pushing safety there will be less accidents.

My question is does any one know of a sight or place where I can find a credible statistics as to why gun control should be enforced?
Thank you ahead of time.

the real purpose of gun control is not to completely remove guns from the public, it is instead to lower the number of violent crimes by guns. Also to help reduce the number of kids killing themselves accidentally or shooting someone else on accident. the best form of gun control is to enforce stricter gun laws, and mandatory gun locks...

Cool Gamer, your statement that guns don't do anything to kill you, can go both ways. Yes, people are going to die eventually of natural causes, but when you get shot, it creates health issues which result in death. If you had not been shot in the first place, the hemorrhaging would never have happened! But, I guess that this minor detail of how death is caused by a fire arm is open to your discretion. For, I think some people can be quite dillusional in actually thinking, that such a small piece of metal could actually harm someone. I guess they haven't played as many video games as you have. Since you, of course know, that a gun couldn't possibly hurt someone.

hey i'm16 and i live in a house with at least 12 guns and 6 bows.  If your parents take the time to show you how to use those weapons they aren't really weapons any more.  They are your best friends.  in response to guns being the biggest percentage killing people......have you ever thought of who they count as kids??  that would be 24 year olds and under.  24 year olds!!!! 18 to 24 year old are probably what makes up most of that percentage.  besides doctors kill people more times per year than guns do and do we want to ban doctors?? NOO!  I want to know the real reason people would like to ban guns.  it won't make us any more safe in fact it will only make us more vulnerable.  criminals would never turn their guns in and knowing that the rest of the population is unarmed would just give them a reason to go on killing sprees.  I belong to a shooting sports group and i love it i love competing and showing off my skill.  i also hunt and please why are people so against hunting?  i dont understand.  would you rather have the animals die from diseases because there is overpopulation or from being attacked by wolves?  at least this way people can eat them. and why not put their head on a wall?  if its huge go ahead and show it off.

people you really need to check all the stats before you go and say that guns are a major problem in our country.

i don't believe in control i believe it doesn't matter if you take guns away from the citizens, there is still always going to be crime. take 9/11 for example those terrorists didn't have a gun, they had a simple plastic knife and look at all the damage they caused and people they killed. and there was not one gun involved. so whether you decided to approve gun control or not. there is still always going to be crime. or people will finds way to get a gun.

Guns are an ignorant way of sport and fun...the purpose of a gun is too kill and kill is the only thing that it will ever do...I think that people who own guns, shoot them, or otherwise are the ones that are destroying our society...Kids kill other kids with guns they find...everyone looks to guns as a way out...or as a way of revenge...our society will crumble beneath us if we don't stop the violence that this issue is creating...WE NEED GUN CONTROL!!!!

According to statistics there is 1 police officer for every 23,000 people in this country. Now how can that 1 policeman be there to protect me. The constitution does not guarantee us protection from murder or crime. It does provide us with a means to protect ourselves with the right to bear arms. We must stop trying to take hand guns away from law abiding citizens and concentrate on taking them away from the criminals. Hand guns are here to stay and no legislation can rid the world of them. Think about it, there is a law making it illegal to own and use many drugs. Has that law stopped the drug problem we have in this country.

I think that guns should remain totally and freely available to any law abiding citizen that sees fit to own one. I own no guns, nor do I plan on getting one, however, I believe that the right to bear arms is a part of our constitution, and should remain intact. I think if average citizens do not have the right to have a gun, it will be more of a problem with "gangsters" because they will get them illegally anyways.

The point of gun control is not to take away guns from all the innocent people and leave them to the "thugs" and "gangsters". The point of it is to keep guns AWAY from those people. The government obviously does not have the right to take away ever citizen's gun. So unless the Second Amendment is repealed, the government is not going to do anything that drastic.

You can't argue with someone who knows nothing about the subject that you are arguing about. I would be willing to bet that almost 100% of the people on this site who are "anti-gun" have never fired or even held a gun, much less taken a safety course on them. They have a common fear of something that they know nothing about.  The new concealed carry laws that are being passed are a great improvement, and offer protection to eveyone around anyone who is responsible enough to have taken the class. these courses are very informative, and I would urge anyone to take them, even if you are exteremely anti gun, you should know exactly what it is that you are fighting against, but if you had taken the course you would change your mind

I am working on a debate for forensics and I found this website and everyone said that it was great and answered all your question's but It doesn't. Out of all the messages I read only like 4 or 5 of you actually talked about the pros of Gun control. Everybody else just talked about wanting pizza and games they were going out to buy.

On the gun control topic I sit in the middle because I don't believe that everyone should have a gun and if they do they should have trigger lock and be in a gun safe or cabinet. My father owns over 20 guns but to get to each gun you have to go through a cabinet that is locked and through about 5 locks just to get the guns out. I have grown up around guns but have no interest at all in them. Hunting I can see why people like it as a sport because my dad hunts but we eat all the meat that he brings home with him. I do not agree with hunting for animals when we have all the meat we need at the stores. but if somebody wants to go out and go hunting I'm not going to stand in there way. At least they are not out killing inocent people. I believe that taking guns away from people will reduce the murders but will raise the breaking and entering along with theft. But the US needs to decide what is important to them and go on it.

People that will have the guns now and forever, are the damn police and the bad guys. The rest of the people that can DECIDE to have guns is the gray area, the people who like to shoot guns and own one for protection. The 2nd ammendment is good cause we have the RIGHT to own guns, not commanding us to own one or not own one. So if a thug tries to jack you, pull your strap out and defend yourself. I am a pro gun supporter, not a gun control supporter. ok, first of all, the government cant just take away ALL of the guns just like that. guns, just like other pieces of technology, have been integrated into our world. i am not saying EVERYONE likes it, but it has become part of our world. taking away guns because they "only kill" is like taking away cars because they "only cause noise and pollution" and such. here are some statistics...

In 1985 the National Institute for Justice reported that:
60% of felons polled agreed that "a criminal is not going to mess around with a victim he knows is armed with a gun."

57% of felons polled agreed that "criminals are more worried about meeting an armed victim than they are about running into the police."

74% of felons polled agreed that "one reason burglars avoid houses when people are at home is that they fear being shot during the crime."

Plus there is no way that you can take every single in america away think about it, how many people do u think have guns in america. over 50% how do u think we can take those away. you cant impossible is my suggestion but now think about it if people started taking other peoples guns away dont u think that there would be riots and now for my last point for all the people that dont like President bush because of his debt he put on us. how much money do u think it would cost him to enforce this gun control policy and how much time?

Guns are what set America apart from any other country in the world. No other country in the world has the magnitude of freedom that we posess. That is one reason that Europeans hate Americans so much. We Americans have the freedom to go out and hunt, or defend ourselves and our families. Did you know that most people who are against guns have never even shot a gun? How can you judge something that you have never experienced. My major gripe is people who blame the guns and sue the gun manufacturers. GUNS DONT GO OFF ALL BY THEMSELVES!!!  Guns don't kill people, people kill people. Saying that guns kill people is like saying the pencil mispelled the word for you. Come on America, Wake up and smell the Folgers.
Letting the government disarm America would be the biggest mistake in our great history. In all reality do you really think that the people commiting the murders and armed robberies are not going to find a way to find weapons. There will always be gun manufacturers somewhere in the world. Vive 2nd Amendment!!!

The only reason we have problems with all the violence today is because of all the violence around us. ( As kids and teens)Seriously, its in movies, TV shows, and video games. its ridiculous. Adults say they need a gun in there house to feel safe and be able to sleep at night but whos to say that theyll actually be able to use it when needed. Will they actually be capable of killing someone. Or maybe its locked up and they cant get to it fast enough. And you should always have it locked up for safety precautions. Especially if you have kids. I really don't think its necessary to have guns at home.(only for hunting purposes, thats it.)

"Guns don't kill people, people kill people" is the most rediculous thing I've ever heard.

If a gun didn't exist, the person killed wouldn't be killed, unless the highly irrational incident of the use of a knife were to occur.

Second of all, if you shoot guns at targets for entertainment, there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. Hell, I've done it before. But that doesn't mean there isn't a risk of owning such firearms. Look back at Columbine. The shooters shot guns as a hobby.

Still innocent?

why is everyone on this site so anti gun control? seriously. right now I'm doing an essay on gun control for my english class and here are a few statistics.

households owning a gun are 43 times more likely to shoot someone in their family then an intruder.

households with guns are five times more likely to commit suicide in comparison to households without the present of firearms.

AMERICA! you are so ignorant about gun safety.  Everyone seems to own guns, yet no one seems to know how to use them.  you are all living in denial that someday someone is going to intrude your house and you will have a gun to protect yourselves.  well guess what? what's the possibility of that happening? you are 43 times more likely to injure your family member then an intruder.  AND of course guns do kill people.  I can not even believe that someone actually posted this: "Guns don't kill people. people die of hemorhaging and organ failure. To think a little piece of metal could do that is naive and ignorant." ok dude, go shoot yourself and then think about that again.
(don't actually do that)  OF courses guns can kill you. I'm sorry but you are naive and ignorant!  I would never own a gun. you are seriously just endangering yourself and your community.  Gun activists may insist that they are protecting themselves by owning firearms, but they are just bringing a potentially fatal situation into their community.

people who own guns are SKETCHY. not brave. not protecting themselves.  SKETCHYY.

Well here's the thing. . I don't really know quite where  I stand on this whole gun issue. I am looking up info for a debate in my 9th grade world history class, and I'm supposed to be a Conservative. I think some of the comments will really help me and give people a better perspective on the pros of gun rights. Here's what little information I know. . .I think it is perfectly fine for people to have guns in their homes, IF they are handled in a mature way. If they are used for protection, then I say that is great. Even if there are children in the house. You should keep them locked up, and sit down one on one with the kids and explain to them what they are for, and that they are never to be used by them, unless they are in a situation where they would need to defend themselves.

I think the Second Amendment needs to be clearer.  We know it clearly states that there is a right to beat arms, but is stated in the context of a well-regulated militia and the security of a free state.  We do not now if that means that there is a limitation on the right or if it is an explanation of why the right exists.  Also, it needs to state better whether it is a right of the people or right of the state.

Readers,

The gun control law will be obsolete. If we are, in fact, to have a gun control, crime rates would rise instead of fall. Data proves that crime rates arose when the Gun Control law was enforced upon Austrailia and Great Britain. People who could aquire guns would prey on the ones who dont. With no way to protect yourself, you would surley be injured, robbed, killed, ect.

thank you

Shredd

I think more parents should teach there kids how to shoot because I could be useful some day.

I just would like to comment on how un-educated your post was.
Any true hunter, or good hunter does eat what he hunts.  They never leave it "sitting in the forest".
And about the "OOO i hit the target" thing....people enjoy shooting guns at targets, and hunting, because it is a challenge.  When you overcome a challenge, you get excited, its just a fact.  So when you shoot a target...and you hit it in a good spot...your going to get excited.
The best meats are sold in stores?  You my friend, are borderline retarded.  All meats sold in stores have been processed countless times.  They have an unbelievable amount of chemicals in them.  When a you go and hunt the animal yourself, you can eat it with certainty that it is not processed, and has no harmfull chemicals in it.  Therefore it is better than the meat you buy in stores.

you are a dumbass...ok ty ty

ya ok, guns may be bad,NOT I have lived in a house with more than 1 gun since I was born and I have hunted and what not, and as a matter of a fact all the people that i know that hunt do use the meat and if they don't then they give it to somebody to eat like the poor who cant afford food. People don't die because of gun's guns cant just get up and walk up to you and say BANG BANG and boom your dead. I too am doing a report on gun control and need some pro's and con's and yet here i see none. Pro- If gun's were more regulated and we had stricter rules mabey dumb adults will have the common sense to keep there guns in a place where there children cannot get to them and they(guns)will be less accessible therefore making it so that they will be less common. Con- very angry people a lot of hunters would be very frustrated. Then we wouldn't be able to protect ourselves with firearms.  the second amendment states "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." meaning WE THE PEOPLE... have the right to bear arm's meaning to protect ourselves our country our family'setc. would this country really be what it is today if we didn't have gun's NO because there would be an over population of animals roaming around we would be constantly finding other ways to harm another person and guns are just a thing like I stated before Guns cant just stand up and say oh hi BANG BANG oh now your dead it's the people with cruel intentions the operator who make it so that we have this controversy. So I say KEEP the guns and just keep them out of the wrong peoples hands. although there are may different situations that pertain to this topic guns should just be regulated so that they are kept in a safe place and people need to get there head out of there you know what and realize how to handle such a thing.

Gun control is important to keep a strict and disciplined society, ultimately to obtain safer environment to live. However, number of guns, or number of possession of guns do not influence the deaths and injuries caused by them. Because, in US, a nation of gun lovers, over 11,000 people die as a result of gun violence. On the other hand, in Canada, also a nation of gun lovers (hunting, entertainment) where 7 million of 10 million homes own guns, there are less than 200 deaths caused by fire arms. These statistics show that its not the gun, but the users that influence the gun. So, it wouldn't be illogical to say that rather than gun control, strict laws, more cautious licensing and ways to deal with criminals is more important goals in making a safer place to live.

Hello, I can't believe some of the stuff I have read here.  Guns don't kill, people do, and whether or not there are gun laws, and the Brady law, if the criminal wants to get a gun, he will.  I feel that the Brady law delays good people that want to get a gun for hunting or targets, or whatever, how many of you know a criminal that is going to go in and fill out the paperwork to buy a gun?  NONE !  I'm a very avid hunter, with bow and arrow as well as guns, I shoot 2 elk per year and 4 deer per year, it feeds my family until the next season, none of it goes to waste.  I shoot for the sport, but more for the food and to get out into the mountains.  I think a lot of the people that are against guns and hunting, are just shallow and uneducated.

I also am doing a report, but it is on the pros AND cons of gun control and my purpose is to prove that gun control is wrong based on the evidence I collect. I am anti gun control, and so far I am finding it hard to get pros to gun control. My view is, if someone is gonna kill someone, do you think they will care if guns are outlawed?? I mean they're already going to break the law, and there are many other weapons they could use anyway. And again, if someone is going to commit suicide they are going to commit suicide no matter what they use to do it. I agree with Reason 100% and I loved those pros to gun control lol! All gun control would do is take away any defense against someone attacking them with a gun the common person might have! And again, a person kills, not a gun. Personally I find it disturbing if someone finds joy in shooting a gun for fun, but I don't think people shouldn't be allowed to do it and I don't think people shouldn't be allowed to own a gun or hunt. Liberals are just stupid. I mean REALLY their party symbol is an ASS for goodness' sake! O and GamerDemon, I don't appreciate what you said about Rush Limbaugh. He is a very smart man. I am very sad that Bush has already been in office for 6 years and will not be able to run again in 2008. I hope Rick Santorum runs, he is also a very good man, and I was disappointed that he lost this past election. I have to get back to research, bye!

i am only 15 and alright yo, you all are messed up alright? OK, here we go, the constitution says it is our urn-infringed right to own a firearm. do you know why that is? it is because if the gov. did decide to put gun control laws into action then they would probably continue on this path and end up making all non-militia guns prohibited. this means all the criminals would have them and no good citizens would. do you know what the gov. would do then? they would try to find ways of finding the people with guns by searching homes. ugh, thats bad right? OK so then all of the population would not have firearms then and the gov. would take over...you know they would just look at the past. thats why we have the past...to learn!!! OK, then we will be controlled by the gov. and they will try to make our country perfect by doing what they did with firearms. they would ban all of the bad things and try to make our lives perfect...just like Hitler.lol. anyway they could do it with food(ration amounts and no bad food) oh but if everybody had the same amount of food then what would be the point of working? unless of course the military made you work by gunpoint...but who would want to live there? oh here i got an idea, how about we put a licens on parenting instead of firearms so that only good parents can have babies and can raise all the future pop. the right way so that there is no violence and a little more sense in the world. that would make more sense then taking away our source of protection and hunting equipment. I am a Christian, vegetarian, and republican and i am not afraid to state my point of view. oh, and sorry i kind of got off topic but as i said it is our right to own what we want to...whoever we may be. as long as it does not hurt anybody else, why should anybody else care? this includes drugs, abortion, suicide, and the right to own firearms. it is your decision. isn't it???

The government will never be able to confiscate every gun. Criminals will always find ways around the law, it's what they do. Taking guns away from the public will only provoke more crime.
Consider what the governments in Australia and England have done. They banned guns from the public, and now their crime rate has sky-rocketed.
Not only this, but once you ban the guns, people will resort to knives. Once you take away the knives, people will resort to any number of things, namely their fists and teeth. So unless world government start thinking about removing our vital body parts, crime and murder will never cease.

Gun control although a very debateable topic has no reasonable answer. Violence is a part of life and the removing of guns from the people would highten the problem. By taking away soemones guns then the mortallity rate from guns would decrease yes BUT the mortalality rate form other weapons such as knives and other physical assault weapons would skyrocket, and then by taking away the right to own these would open a gateway for people to find new ways to harm one another, and by taking away every possible violent weopon imaginable would still leave a seriously dangerous weapon. Our own hands. And if outlawing the use of our hands for anything becomes put into effect. What the hell would we do then. My opinion is to keep the laws the same however increase the already strong the restrivctions on gun use.

laws aren't going to keep people from killing each other, so why bother with gun control. think, there are many laws against the use and possession of many drugs, but what have those laws done to improve that situation?

im an 18 year old girl i know how to use a gun my older brothers know how to use a gun. we have several in our house that are locked away in a gun case. we use them to hunt and protect ourselves from someone breaking into our house. you can not tell me that when somone breaks into your house  you dont know if they are going to kill you or not. half the time they take girls young girls and knowing karate for a  girl is not going to defend them from someone who holds a gun to a girls head so in my point its a good idea to have something to protect yourself from a freak thats going to break into your house!!

I always go hunting for prarie dogs on my neighbors land and i always have a blast. Guns are a good thing if they are in the right hands. These gangsters think there cool because they can shoot a human 10 ft. away. Shoot an animal that is the size of a small cat at 500 yards and you know how to use a rifle.

Saying that guns will always be here and that nothing can be done to stop it is a worthless comment, in my opinion.  We state our opinions and speak out to others primarily in order to bring about change.
I do believe that there needs to be gun control, definately.  Why would you need a gun to protect yourself if nobody else can have a gun.  Gun control is something that must be established immediately, especially with culture the way it is today.
The Constitution was written over two hundred years ago.  The founding fathers probably did not anticipate the world to be as it is today.  Think about the influence TV shows, movies, video games, and the internet have on people, especially children.  Children may grow up watching all this violence and become immune to it.  Many children see guns as toys.  Toy guns are popular among children.  Americans are being negatively influenced about guns.
Plus, think how high the numbers of killings are which involve guns?  Isn't this proof enough that there must be some sort of change?  Maybe one's childish wish to own a gun and feel powerful needs to be sacrificed to lower these numbers and save lives.  The biggest argument I've heard by those who are against gun control is that they feel their freedom is in jeopardy.  You're losing a weapon, a "toy."  I think its selfish, really, so give me a break.

homicide rate
-36% Florida
-0.4% United States

firearm homicide rate
-37% Florida
15% United States

handgun homicide rate
-41% Florida
24% United States

Those are statistics from when florida allowed right-to-carry laws for guns, the crimes reduced drastically, now i live in new york not in florida and i feel if tha law was to take affect here then it would change things for the better here too.

In 1994 Governor Weld OF Massachusetts signed a law that banned handgun possession for people under 21 in Boston. A year after Weld signed the law, Boston, riddled with youth murders in the early 1990s, began a 2 1/2-year spell without a gun murder of a child under 17.

The Treasury and Justice departments this week released a study that found that 18- to 20-year-olds, 4 percent of the total population, account for 24 percent of gun murders in the United States. House Speaker Dennis Hastert, a Republican, supports rising the age for purchase but not for possession. Many Republicans and some Democrats still oppose any rise in the minimum age. In a letter to Vice President Al Gore, Deputy Attorney General Eric Holder and Treasury Undersecretary James Johnson called for a ban on handgun and assault rifle possession and sales to people under 21.

Even the First Amendment has restrictions. Freedom of Speech doesn't mean you can say anything anywhere. Freedom of Religion doesn't mean you can sacrifice a virgin whenever you want. Using common sense can work with the Second Amendment too.

I don't think liberals believe guns walk around and shoot people by themselves. What they do believe is that guns make killing physically easier, make it too convenient esp. when angered, allow a person to kill from a distance, and allows a person to kill many people at once.

It’s obvious that someone who's willing to do a major crime like murder isn't likely to worry about a gun control law. The object of gun control is to make it hard for someone that's likely to commit a crime from getting a gun and even harder to get a gun capable of killing dozens of people

According to the Constitution, the second Amendment promises individuals the right to carry arms. Many people argue that with regards to carrying arms, only the militia is given this ability. When the second Amendment was written the states had no formal militia. The guns that were used were brought in by the citizens. If individuals were not granted the right to carry arms, then the militia would not have arms to fight with since the state did not provide guns. In addition, 86% of states already have their own constitution specifically granting individuals the right to carry arms.

Even if guns were illegal to carry individuals would find another weapon to carry such as a knife. Cars kill people too, yet no one is running around trying to ban cars. Individuals also deserve the right to use guns as protection against anything harmful that comes their way. Although gun use is abused and causes concern, instead of banning guns, better regulation is needed. A lot of crime that occurs with the use of guns is by individuals that obtain guns illegally. These individuals oftentimes already have a bad record and would most likely be rejected in registering a gun legally. Just because a few people abuse the privilege of carrying a gun does not give reason to deprive other law abiding citizens the same privilege. Guns don't kill people, people kill people.

This may be alot but trust me. it will all work. i had to do a debate and i had the same thing. i have a lot of information that will help anyone.

Gun Control is defined the efforts to regulate the sale and use of handguns and rifles.  From the articles we found many statistics that support gun control.
The United States has the most firearms of any country and also has the most deaths relating to firearms.** Look at the number of deaths in the U.S. That is an unreasonably high number compared to other countries.** England, on the other hand, has very strict regulations regarding firearms. Handguns, Semi automatic and pump rifles are forbidden, and the sale of all other types of guns are strictly limited. And look at their number of deaths related to firearms. WWAAYY under the U.S.’s. That says something. It says that gun control laws are working in England, and other countries like Japan and South Korea. Even Switzerland, which is third compared to us, has less deaths than us.
Firearms are used more to stop crimes than to commit them, and that means that the people who are using them to stop crimes are getting a hold of them legally.
43% of households have guns that are unlocked and have not trigger guards on.
9% of households have those guns also loaded. 4% of households have the ammunition close to their unlocked, loaded guns. How safe would you feel in a house like that where there are little kids that can get at those guns at all times?
People who keep guns in the house are 72% more likely to be killed by firearms and are 3.4 times more likely to commit suicide.

I believe that guns should not be obtained by anyone. The only way to get a gun is to have a background check, and psycological check for violent behavior and THEN you can get one.
