my dog is not eating well, is sometimes shaky and has a lot of mucus secreting from her eyes.  It is white and goopy and I am very worried about her.  I don't have money right now to take her to the vet unless it is an emergency.  Any idea what it might be?

I can't tell you what's wrong but if my dog has gunk in her eyes it usually means she's not getting enough nutrition. It always clears up eventually. If your dog is shaking too it might be more serious so you could try calling the vet or doing an online search. Hope this helps! Tanisha

My dog has been doing the same thing...we took him to the vet they said it could be distemper or kennel cough, but more than likely distemper. He's had two IV'sto keep him hydrated, but still he's not eating. We don't know what to do other than wait and pray. The vet says if we have money to provide for his needs then he has a more chance to live. But if it is this he doesn't have a good chance. I wish you the best! Oh, and more thing he's on antibiotics. It is an emergency if you can take him to the vet immediately!!!

My Pooh Bear (Yorkie) had some problems the other day
walking all together. His neck was so swollen and was
warm to the touch.  I knew something was wrong.  I
took him to the vet and she gave him a shot of
Metacam.  Well it did the trick for about 3 days and
then his neck started to warm up again.  The vet gave
me 4 syringes and I gave him another.  I was wondering
does your dog get Metacam daily??  What else can he
take??
We just moved to New Zealand from Hawaii and I think
the cold weather might be playing a part in his
arthritis.
Any information you have would be so greatly
appreciated.
Thanks,
Lisa and Pooh Bear

Sounds like your dog might be  hypoglycemic. Try giving him a little bit of Caro corn syrup and see if his mood changes. Is his tounge a pale blue color? IF so, this will definitely work.

Canine distemper virus is most often transmitted through contact with mucous and watery secretions discharged from eyes and noses of infected dogs. Contact with the urine and fecal material of infected dogs can also result in infection. A healthy dog can be infected without coming in contact with an infected animal. Kennels, runs and other areas used by infected dogs can harbor canine distemper virus. Short of raising a dog in total isolation, it is nearly impossible to prevent exposure. Some veterinary medical scientists estimate that practically every dog that lives to be a year old has had contact with the virus at some time.

The many signs of distemper are not always typical. For this reason, treatment may be delayed or neglected. The disease frequently brings about something like a severe cold. Most infected dogs have a fever and "stuffed up" head. Exposed animals may develop bronchitis, pneumonia and severe inflammation of the stomach and intestines.

The first signs of distemper an owner might notice are squinting, congestion of the eyes, and a discharge of pus from the eyes. Weight loss, coughing, vomiting, nasal discharge, and diarrhea are common. In later stages the virus frequently attacks the nervous system, bringing about partial or complete paralysis as well as "fits" or twitching. Dogs suffering from the disease are usually listless and have poor appetites.

Hope this helps.
Catherine
