I have a Golden Retriever and his brother has developed a small cataract.  The dogs are 18 months old.  Our dog shows no signs of cataracts.  We have wanted to breed him.  What is your opinion about breeding the dog?  He also does not have any other health problems, nor does his parents.

If the dogs brother has developed a cataract, chances are, that your dog may develop it later in life too or he is a carrier. Do yourself a favor and have his eyes checked by a certified vet ophthalmologist. You may say that the dog nor his parents have health problems, but have they been tested for them? Hip Dysplasia is highly common in Goldens and any reputable breeder will test for it by having xrays done. It lessens the chances of passing it down to offspring, who then might suffer from it.
