I needed to add wiring to an older stove, so the kitchen could be accessible.   At a local hardware store, the question was asked which wire to buy.  I was sold dryer wire, told that it would work just fine.   It was installed, and know I think I am being fed a line by a third-party (speaking to the landlord, as the refridgerator need replacing, they fed me a line about why that no longer works.)

Is dryer wire ok to use on a stove?

Typically a home is wired with a 30 amp dryer breaker which requires #10awg wire.  The range is usually on a 50 amp breaker supplied with #8 wire.  The previous examples are using copper wire, if wired with aluminum wire the wire would be 1 size larger #8 for dryer and #6 for range. As far as the pigtail you bought if the wire is as stated above #8 if copper and the male end fits into your range outlet you should be fine.

Hope that helps
