My 1991 escort station wagon 5 speed clutch has no tension...

My 1991 escort station wagon 5 speed clutch has no tension until the pedal is pushed 1/2 way down, then has normal tension and the clutch works fine. I was told to check the clutch fluid level because this model has a hydraulic clutch.??, Where is the master cylinder for the clutch located so I can check the fluid.   thanks.
